Two seasons ago, Lynn led the Chargers to a 12-4 record, then this year they finished 7-9, winning their last four games, giving him a 33-31 record in LA.

Chargers now become the sixth NFL team to have a head coach opening.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 4, 2021

Anthony Lynn Fired as Head Coach of Los Angeles Chargers

Anthony Lynn took over a Chargers team that on the same day announced they were officially moving to Los Angeles. In 2016, the Chargers missed the playoffs with an AFC West worst record of 5-11. Lynn was supposed to come in and help guide this Chargers team to a Super Bowl that was loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.

While Lynn did manage to lead the team to the AFC conference championship game in the 2018 season, they were blown out by the New England Patriots. The final score was 41-28. The Chargers have not returned to the playoffs since. As a matter of fact, the team has not had a winning season since their embarrassing playoff loss.

Even despite drafting the eventual rookie of the year in Justin Herbert, the team has struggled to close out close games. This has been mostly due to some questionable play calling and game planning in the second half of games. To make matters worse, Lynn insisted on sticking with Tyrod Taylor as his starter early in the season. After watching Herbert play, it is a surprise that Lynn lasted as long as he did. Herbert is clearly a far superior quarterback than Taylor in every facet of the position.

Whomever takes over as the Chargers head coach will have a franchise quarterback. in place to go with a plethora of talent on defense.
