Mason Rudolph Signs Contract With Pittsburgh Steelers

Mason Rudolph Contract

NFL veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph has signed a new contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2022, Rudolph played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has played for the Steelers since he was drafted by the team in the 3rd round, with the 76th overall pick, of the 2018 NFL Draft.

In 2022, Rudolph came into training camp to compete with veteran Mitch Trubisky and rookie first-round pick Kenny Pickett for the Steelers starting quarterback position. However, he ended up as the third quarterback on the team’s depth chart. As a result, Rudolph did not see any game action during the regular season.

In Rudolph’s rookie season, he served as the team’s third quarterback. Although some media members and Steelers fans perceived Rudolph to be the heir apparent to longtime quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, he did not receive a single snap in the regular season. This lack of playing time came in the aftermath of some contentious comments Ben Roethlisberger made about Rudolph’s selection.

The following season, however, Rudolph appeared in ten games, starting in eight of them, in place of an injured Roethlisberger. Overall, Rudolph provided decent, yet unspectacular play for the team, as he threw for 1,765 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions while compiling a 5-3 record. Rudolph’s most notable moment from the 2019 season came during an altercation at the end of a Week 11 game against the Cleveland Browns when Browns DE Myles Garrett struck Rudolph in the head with Rudolph’s helmet.

In 2020, Rudolph appeared in five games, mostly in relief appearances during Steelers blowout victories. However, Rudolph started the season finale against the Browns, throwing for 315 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a 24-22 loss.

During the 2021 offseason, Rudolph signed a one-year extension with the team. In 2021, Rudolph started one game in place of Ben Roethlisberger, who was ruled out with COVID-19. Rudolph, in his lone start against the Lions in Week 10, threw for 242 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in a 16-16 tie.
