NFL Rumors: Robby Anderson On the Trade Block, Julio Jones Wants “Big-Armed QB”

According to the latest NFL rumors, wide receiver Robby Anderson could be on his way out of Carolina while Julio Jones has a trade preference.
Robby Anderson Rumors

Even in the offseason, the NFL world never truly quiets down. According to the latest NFL rumors, wide receiver Robby Anderson could be on his way out of Carolina. The speedy deep threat had a solid first season with the Panthers, but there are reasons to believe this marriage could be over after just one year. In other news, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones reportedly wants to play with a quarterback capable of stretching the field.

NFL Rumors: Robby Anderson, Julio Jones Trades On the Horizon

Robby Anderson and the Carolina Panthers do not appear to be seeing eye-to-eye right now. The wide receiver did not report to OTA’s, which in of itself is not that big of a deal. However, he also removed all Panthers content from his Instagram page, and WalterFootball.com previously reported that Carolina shopped the wide receiver during the 2021 NFL Draft.

Obviously, nothing is official yet, and head coach Matt Rhule still expects the speedster to be around for mandatory minicamp and training camp. However, there is clearly some tension between the player and team, and the selection of Terrace Marshall Jr. could make Anderson somewhat expendable. With Anderson in the final year of his deal and the Panthers probably not being ready to contend in 2021, it is very possible that Anderson starts the year with a different organization.

This trade, if it happens, would be yet another unfortunate setback for Sam Darnold. The former New York Jet had a rough start to his career, but the Panthers were hoping that a change of scenery could unlock his potential. Anderson and Darnold have an established rapport stemming from their time together with the Jets, and losing the Temple product would only make it that much harder for Darnold to succeed.

Julio Jones Digs the Deep Ball

Update: The Atlanta Falcons have traded Julio Jones to the Tennessee Titans, making this entire section of the article null and void.

While a Robby Anderson trade is a matter of “if”, a Julio Jones trade is a matter of when. The two-time All-Pro is definitely on his way out of Atlanta, and there are quite a few teams in the running. However, if Jones has his way, he’ll land with a quarterback capable of stretching the field.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Jones wants to play with a “big-armed quarterback that can deliver the deep ball”, and he also wants to be on a team that can immediately contend for a Super Bowl.

As of June 2nd, the Julio Jones betting odds leaders were, in order, the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and New England Patriots. Of those teams, the Seahawks, Titans, 49ers, and (debatably) Patriots seem to be the best fits. Seattle and Tennessee both have great quarterback situations and obtainable paths to the postseason. Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t exactly a deep ball specialist and Trey Lance is very raw as a prospect, but a healthy version of this team should compete for a title.

New England is easily the biggest wild card, as Bill Belichick went nuts in free agency to improve the overall roster. With all the other pieces in place, Julio Jones could be the final piece to get New England back to contention. Cam Newton was actually one of the most accurate deep passers in the league last year, but he had one of the lowest deep rates in the league. If his shoulder can handle throwing deep more often, then Jones should be happy in New England.
