Fantasy Football: Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills Highlight Fantasy Football Week 14 Defenses
Tennessee Titans
It’s hard to think of an offense with less life than Cody Kessler-led Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars benched Blake Bortles for the former Cleveland Browns quarterback, but that did nothing to fix their offense. Jacksonville put up just six points against a subpar Colts defense, and it’s hard to see the unit getting much better. Leonard Fournette’s return will help, but this offense will struggle to move the ball.
The Tennessee Titans meet the Jaguars at the perfect time. Tennessee’s defense allowed 16 points to the Jets while recording two sacks and an interception. The Titans defense should be able to do even better against an even worse Jacksonville offense. Owned in just 23.2% of NFL.com fantasy leagues, the Titans defense is a smart start for the fantasy football playoffs.
Buffalo Bills
Just like the Titans, the Buffalo Bills face a fantastic matchup in Week 14. The unit is one of the better ones in football, to begin with, but has the benefit of facing off against the New York Jets. The Jets are one of the worst offenses in the league and should be vulnerable against Buffalo. After missing the past four weeks, rookie quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to return to the starting lineup.
While Darnold has a significantly higher ceiling than journeyman backup Josh McCown, the third-overall pick is still very much a work in progress. In his last three starts, Darnold has thrown for just 588 yards, two touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His receiving core is underwhelming and his running game is in shambles. The Bills defense should be able to apply pressure to the rookie, creating sacks and forcing turnovers in the process. Owned in just 8.7% of leagues, the Buffalo Bills defense should be one of the top units next week.
Detroit Lions
Nobody likes to recommend starting the Detroit Lions defense. It’s not a good unit by any measure and lacks top-tier players outside of Darius Slay. However, the purpose of this column is to give solid recommendations for any league size. If you play in an extremely deep league and need a fantasy defense, you could do worse than the Detroit Lions.
This recommendation is based completely upon the matchup. Detroit faces off against an anemic Arizona Cardinals offense which cannot get out of its’ own way. Josh Rosen has shown promise, but the first-year passer is far from being a developed product. David Johnson is having a hard time getting going, and Larry Fitzgerald can’t carry the offense by himself. It won’t take much for Detroit to stop an offense which hasn’t scored more than 21 points since October 7th. There’s hopefully a better option than this in your league, but Detroit’s defense is capable of being a decent start.
