{"id":7771,"date":"2020-03-08T13:45:07","date_gmt":"2020-03-08T17:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonmotorsport.com\/?p=7771"},"modified":"2020-03-08T13:45:07","modified_gmt":"2020-03-08T17:45:07","slug":"brandon-jones-thunders-to-victory-in-nxs-race-at-phoenix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2020\/03\/08\/brandon-jones-thunders-to-victory-in-nxs-race-at-phoenix\/","title":{"rendered":"Brandon Jones Thunders to Victory in NXS race at Phoenix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Racing at Phoenix Raceway is always exciting, and the LS Tractor 200 this weekend proved to be no exception.\u00a0 The short track in the desert gave fans and racers some edge of their seat racing with a little fighting thrown in for good measure.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Brandon Jones Thunders to Victory in NXS race at Phoenix<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Brandon Jones took the victory Saturday, beating Kyle Busch with a well-played strategy of position, pit strategy, and most of all speed. \u00a0Busch, who has a $100,000 bounty on him next week at Atlanta in Truck Series, thanks to Kevin Harvick, ran a strong race himself finishing third.\u00a0 In fact, it wasn\u2019t until lap 181 that Jones was able to pass him and go onto to take the lead.\u00a0 Jones was solidly quick all race day, winning with a whopping 3.5 seconds over teammate Harrison Burton.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Gibbs Racing enjoyed a great race overall, with a 1-2-3 finish in the event. The win also comes with the added benefit of being the 500<sup>th<\/sup> win for Toyota in the top three series of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonmotorsport.com\/2020\/03\/06\/ryan-blaney-signs-extension-with-team-penske\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NASCAR<\/a>.\u00a0 The team seemed to improve as the day went on, each car getting stronger and faster as the race progressed.<\/p>\n<p>Justin Allgaier also had a good race, most of the day being the fastest driver turning laps.\u00a0 However, his pit strategy didn\u2019t work as smoothly.\u00a0 Couple that with the bad timing of a caution and he wasn\u2019t able to utilize his last set of new tires, putting him at a distinct disadvantage.<\/p>\n<h2>A Little Extra Excitement&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>The real heat of the race came, however, when Dillon Bassett was driving hard for 10<sup>th<\/sup> place.\u00a0 He got up under Brandon Brown\u2019s Chevy and got loose.\u00a0 The two Chevies got tangled up and hit the wall, leaving Bassett in 18<sup>th<\/sup> and Brown in 12<sup>th<\/sup>. Brown drew his car to a stop on pit road where Bassett and his brother confronted him and began a fight.\u00a0 The two ended up having to be separated by crew members and NASCAR officials.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix Raceway always gives fans and teams a great race from start to finish.\u00a0 The short track in the desert always provides plenty of heat on and off the track and this week didn\u2019t disappoint.
