{"id":7553,"date":"2020-02-09T19:21:22","date_gmt":"2020-02-10T00:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonmotorsport.com\/?p=7553"},"modified":"2020-02-09T20:51:56","modified_gmt":"2020-02-10T01:51:56","slug":"white-zone-that-was-some-dumb-dumb-racing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2020\/02\/09\/white-zone-that-was-some-dumb-dumb-racing\/","title":{"rendered":"The White Zone: That was some &#8216;dumb, dumb racing&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Weaver of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/autoweek.com\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Autoweek.com<\/em> <\/a>once told me that superspeedway racing is just a high-speed game of Russian roulette.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s farce of a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonmotorsport.com\/2020\/02\/09\/odds-on-odds-2020-busch-clash-at-daytona\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Busch Clash<\/a> at Daytona International Speedway reinforced that notion, with some &#8220;dumb, dumb racing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Until the final 10 laps at Daytona, the Busch Clash was a fuel mileage race. The Chevrolet cars, plus <strong>Joey Logano<\/strong>, opted not to pit when the Toyota and Ford cars did; they banked on saving fuel to out-smart the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding Turn 4 with 10 to go, however, the Clash turned into a wreck fest. <strong>Kyle Busch<\/strong> went low to pass Logano, made contact with him and triggered a three-car wreck.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">JOEY LOGANO AND KYLE BUSCH TRIGGER A BIG CRASH IN DAYTONA \ud83d\ude33 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0UzYn9dP8O\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/0UzYn9dP8O<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; FOX: NASCAR (@NASCARONFOX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NASCARONFOX\/status\/1226617811616792577?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">February 9, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The White Zone: That was some &#8216;dumb, dumb racing&#8217;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Busch said that Logano blocked him multiple times, until he went low before their contact.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I did, I touched him just a little bit, which then turned his car and then we were just sandwiched and the wreck was on,&#8221; Busch said. &#8220;I don\u2019t know. Either you can race or you can wreck. The reason why we ride in single file is because we don\u2019t know how to race. Just a product of a few bad decisions there and we\u2019re all crashed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brad Keselowski,<\/strong> who was caught up in the wreck, said it was just &#8220;dumb racing&#8221; and &#8220;dumb moves being made.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Guys that don\u2019t know what they are doing so they throw crazy blocks,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It is just ridiculous. We shouldn\u2019t be wrecking all these cars. But I don\u2019t know, I just have to look at it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newman said there might&#8217;ve been some oil on the track, but that he and everyone else looked stupid by wrecking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I guess that happens,&#8221; Newman said. &#8220;It wasn\u2019t the peak of stupidity today though, that is for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After cleaning up, the field was re-stacked and sent back racing, again, in overtime.<\/p>\n<p>Heading down the backstretch, Denny Hamlin made contact with someone, because his left-rear tire gave way and he spun out, taking multiple cars with him.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What.
