{"id":7378,"date":"2019-11-19T16:46:55","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T21:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonmotorsport.com\/?p=7378"},"modified":"2019-11-19T16:46:55","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T21:46:55","slug":"trucks-zane-smith-to-drive-full-time-with-gms-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2019\/11\/19\/trucks-zane-smith-to-drive-full-time-with-gms-in-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Trucks: Zane Smith to drive full time with GMS in 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GMS Racing announced the signing of their fourth full-time truck series driver in <strong>Zane Smith<\/strong> as well as crew chief <strong>Kevin Manion<\/strong>, Tuesday afternoon, in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>The pair will get together to pilot a fifth truck for the team during the 2020 NASCAR Gander Outdoors &amp; RV Truck Series season.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Trucks: Zane Smith to drive full time with GMS in 2020<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On top of Smith in their fifth truck, GMS will see <strong>Brett Moffitt <\/strong>and <strong>Sheldon Creed <\/strong>return to the No. 24 and No. 2 teams, respectively, as well as <strong>Tyler Ankrum\u00a0<\/strong>piloting the No. 21 full-time.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining No. 23 truck will be driven part time by 2019 K&amp;N East Series champion\u00a0<strong>Sam Mayer\u00a0<\/strong>as well as World of Outlaws star\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonmotorsport.com\/2019\/08\/11\/david-gravel-wins-59th-knoxville-nationals-in-axalta-jjr-no-41\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>David Gravel<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I got the offer from <strong>Mike Beam<\/strong> asking me to run a truck full-time for GMS Racing, I couldn\u2019t pass up the opportunity,\u201d Smith said in the release. \u201cGMS is a Championship caliber team and to be a part of an organization like theirs is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I\u2019m looking forward to working with Manion again. He has a lot of experience and I know we will be a great team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair worked together during Smith&#8217;s lone truck series start in 2018, when Smith drove DGR-Crosley&#8217;s No. 54 truck to a fifth-place finish.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year old had some experience in victory lane as well that season, winning four ARCA Menards Series races in 2018 with MDM Motorsports.<\/p>\n<p>During 2019, Smith ran a partial schedule as one of the rotating drivers in JR Motorsports&#8217; No. 8 entry.<\/p>\n<p>He competed in 10 races with the team and collected\u00a0fifth-place finishes at Iowa Speedway and ISM Raceway.<\/p>\n<p>GMS has not yet announced a sponsor or number for Smith, but did confirm that he will be competing for Rookie of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020, 23-race truck series schedule will kick off on Friday, February 14 with a 250-mile race at Daytona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GMS Racing announced the signing of their fourth full-time truck series driver in Zane Smith as well as crew chief Kevin Manion, Tuesday afternoon, in a press release.
