Sometimes, when a driver leads every lap of a race, people will write that he \u2018dominated\u2019 or \u2018whooped\u2019 the field.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m guilty of it and I know others are too.<\/p>\n
But on Saturday night at the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series\u2019 Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway, Sheldon Haudenschild <\/strong>quite literally \u2018whooped\u2019 the rest of the 24-car field.<\/p>\n Haudenschild crossed the line 10.3 seconds in front of Donny Schatz <\/strong>and lapped every car up to the top five finishers.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all owe him an applause right now, because that was a \u2018whoopin, right there\u201d Schatz said on the Dirt Vision broadcast after the race. \u201cI\u2019ll commend that.\u201d<\/p>\n Schatz even thought he was racing Dayrn Pittman <\/strong>in the Roth Motorsports No. 83 car for the lead.<\/p>\n They were double-digits behind Haudenschild the whole time, racing for second.<\/p>\n \u201cI couldn\u2019t see him,\u201d Schatz said. \u201cI just told [Pittman] that I thought I had actually won. I thought [Haudenschild] had pulled off for fuel or something.\u201d<\/p>\n It seems bizarre, but that\u2019s the type of stuff that happens in the Outlaws\u2019 55-lap affair, the longest race of the season by lap distance.<\/p>\n After winning the Dash, Haudenschild started on the pole of the endurance race next to Schatz.<\/p>\n He fell back to third early on but made his way around Tim Shaffer <\/strong>as well as the No. 15 to take the lead on lap 11.<\/p>\n Haudenschild didn\u2019t look back. He went on to lap 2018 Ironman 55 champ Logan Schuchart <\/strong>as well as World of Outlaws points leader Brad Sweet <\/strong>by the race\u2019s halfway point.<\/p>\n He even passed his dad, Jac, a pair of times.<\/p>\n \u201cI was out there racing, so I didn\u2019t get to watch all of it,\u201d Jac said. \u201cHe lapped me a couple of times, I figured he must be going pretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n Haudenschild’s performance even caught the attention of NASCAR rising star,\u00a0Kyle Larson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Nice job @Haudenschild_17<\/a>.
