{"id":5138,"date":"2018-06-30T18:44:56","date_gmt":"2018-06-30T22:44:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/?p=5138"},"modified":"2018-06-30T18:44:56","modified_gmt":"2018-06-30T22:44:56","slug":"eric-bridger-chases-second-championship-and-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2018\/06\/30\/eric-bridger-chases-second-championship-and-more\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Bridger chases second championship and more"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Eric Bridger<\/strong> ended Friday night\u2019s 305 Knoxville Cup race with a fourth place finish.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was the first night in five races for Bridger that didn\u2019t end with him hoisting a trophy in victory lane, but it would be hard to tell by talking to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>Eric Bridger chases second championship and more<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201c[We were] pretty good,\u201d<\/em> Bridger said. <em>\u201cWe drew 8 for the invert and that\u2019s going to happen. We started seventh there and got a pretty good start from there. I just tried to pass as many cars as I could.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bridger would finish ahead of <strong>Ryan Leavitt<\/strong>, who sits second in the point standings, and extend his points lead a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019re leading now, I think we extended it to over 120, so that\u2019s pretty good, &#8220;<\/em> Bridger said. <em>&#8220;Going into the month of July, [I view it as] your one big month and that\u2019s about it. You have two more races in August after that.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bridger&#8217;s four wins in a row this season helped to bring his total to a whopping eight career victories at the track in 305&#8217;s. That mark is three away from tying the record of 11. Although, Bridger&#8217;s eyes aren&#8217;t focused on the all-time wins record.<\/p>\n<h2>Championship Aspirations<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201c[The wins record] would be nice, but I just want to take care of the championship first and then go from there,&#8221;<\/em> Bridger said. <em>&#8220;We\u2019re already pretty much higher up there than I thought we\u2019d ever <\/em>be<em>, so that\u2019s pretty cool as it is.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bridger is the defending Knoxville Cup 305 series champion, so taking care of the championship is no unfamiliar task. However, a move up to the 360 division is a different story.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019ll try,&#8221;<\/em> Bridger said. <em>&#8220;It\u2019s all going to be about money and sponsorship. The wins help to see what we can do.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>We\u2019ll just see what happens. <\/em>There\u2019s<em> always opportunities for different rides, but <\/em>there<em> coming less and less now a days.&#8221; <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bridger emphasized the money aspect of the situation and even mentioned running for his own family&#8217;s team next season in the middle division at the track. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8220;[We&#8217;ll] see if we can get a couple of sponsorships and run our family car next year,&#8221;<\/em> Bridger said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The 305&#8217;s have Saturday of this week off, but will return to the track next week during Knoxville&#8217;s weekly racing series.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cI was pretty happy with how the whole night went, I\u2019m ready for next week,&#8221;<\/em> Bridger said.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eric Bridger ended Friday night\u2019s 305 Knoxville Cup race with a fourth place finish.\u00a0It was the first night in five races for Bridger that didn\u2019t end with him hoisting a trophy in victory lane, but it would be hard to tell by talking to him.
