{"id":5045,"date":"2018-06-24T05:34:33","date_gmt":"2018-06-24T09:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/?p=5045"},"modified":"2022-06-16T14:25:04","modified_gmt":"2022-06-16T18:25:04","slug":"brian-brown-slides-past-kerry-madsen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2018\/06\/24\/brian-brown-slides-past-kerry-madsen\/","title":{"rendered":"Brian Brown slides past Kerry Madsen to win at Knoxville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When lap 20 came in Saturday\u2019s 410 <strong>Knoxville Cup<\/strong> A-Main, <\/span><b>Brian Brown<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was ready to take his shot. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown, who started fourth in the race, had passed Austin and Terry McCarl to take second place in the first five laps of the evening, though it was evident that passing race leader <\/span><b>Kerry Madsen <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">would be a bigger challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>Brian Brown slides past Kerry Madsen to win at Knoxville<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown kept pace with Madsen for 15 laps. The split times fluctuated like the flip of a coin, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.6 seconds, 1.1 seconds, then back down to 0.5. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown wouldn\u2019t have a better opportunity to make a move, so he slid the car into turn one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cWe were pretty good all night long trying to catch him and moving around,\u201d<\/em> Brown said. <em>\u201cI got a good run there and went across.\u201d <\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown\u2019s car slid into the cushion, right in front of Madsen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Madsen checked up in time, his car got caught up in the dirt and he would go on to flip multiple times, corralling a harsh DNF.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Madsen said:<em>\u201cHe slid straight <\/em>accross<em> when he had no speed so I had to lift and hit the brakes. It put me into the cushion and I took off. I was just trying to stay on four wheels at that point. <\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>It was a silly move, but what\u2019s done is done and we\u2019ll move on.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown\u2019s slide job would pay off, as the Missouri native earned yet another 410 victory at Knoxville.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In case anyone thought that Brown made a dirty move, he was reassuring in saying that it wasn\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cWhere I was going to land and where he ended up crashing is just so thick,\u201d<\/em> Brown said. <em>\u201cIt was just one of those racing deals. He\u2019s one of my friends, I definitely wouldn\u2019t try to crash him on purpose.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Racing for the lead and Kerry Madsen ends up upside-down! He is OK! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kgQy6Xw2VM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/kgQy6Xw2VM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Knoxville Raceway (@knoxvilleraces) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/knoxvilleraces\/status\/1010727060791324673?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June 24, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown\u2019s victory was his seventh of the season in what has been a dream year for him.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though his team has missed two of the nine total Knoxville Cup races that have been run so far, Brown has won all but one of the races he has competed in this year. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the one race that he didn\u2019t win, Brian Brown held the runner-up position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cYou just have to keep trying to plug away and try to do better and better every single time you hit the track,\u201d<\/em> Brown said. <em>\u201cWe weren\u2019t as good as I felt we needed to be tonight, but we got to victory lane.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The victory will push Brown into a better points position in the Knoxville Cup standings, which won\u2019t be official until Monday afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019re never concentrating on the points,\u201d<\/em> Brown said. <em>\u201cWe just want to come here and win races.
