{"id":41,"date":"2016-08-19T20:38:46","date_gmt":"2016-08-19T20:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonmotorsport.com\/?p=41"},"modified":"2022-06-17T14:28:36","modified_gmt":"2022-06-17T18:28:36","slug":"alexander-rossi-turns-down-manor-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2016\/08\/19\/alexander-rossi-turns-down-manor-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"Alexander Rossi Turns Down Manor Drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a recent report, it has been revealed that American <strong>IndyCar<\/strong> driver, and former <strong>F1<\/strong> racer, <strong>Alexander Rossi<\/strong> had been approached by his former team, <strong>Manor<\/strong>, to drive for them for the remainder of this year\u2019s <strong>Formula 1<\/strong> season, however, has since declined the offer.<\/p>\n<h3>Alexander Rossi Turns Down Manor Drive<\/h3>\n<p>Rossi, who currently races in the IndyCar Series for <strong>Andretti Autosport<\/strong> previously drove for Manor in 2015, replacing Roberto<strong>\u00a0Merhi<\/strong> in the second half of the season, racing for the team at 5 Grand Prix. Although a Manor drive looked promising in 2016 for the young American, Rossi was replaced by Indonesia\u2019s <strong>Rio Haryanto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With the halfway\u00a0point of the <strong>2016 Formula 1 Season<\/strong> being marked by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2019\/Germany.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>German Grand Prix<\/strong><\/a>, it has been revealed that Haryanto has been\u00a0struggling with finances, supposedly owing Manor some 7 million euros, thus explaining why Rossi has been approached in order to partner <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/?s=Pascal+Wehrlein\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Pascal Wehrlein<\/strong><\/a> for the remainder of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Although Rossi has declined this offer, the American does have options for 2017, whether it be in Formula 1 or in IndyCar.
