The overtakes was 49% lower than the overtakes in 2016.

The F1 official website published an article about this new DRS zone. It states that “in a bid to further increase overtaking at a track where it is traditionally difficult” a third DRS zone will be used in Australia for the first time since DRS was introduced.

The new zone will be positioned between turns 12 and 13 and it will help a driver “to be closer going into the next activation zone that follows the final two corners of the 16-turn circuit”.

DRS works when a driver is one second or less behind the next car in the detection zones.
