Only Alpine have accumulated less points than the US outfit, underlining Haas&#8217; disappointing start to the year.<\/p>\n<p>Team principal <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/06\/04\/ayao-komatsu-calls-for-haas-reflection-after-spanish-gp\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Ayao Komatsu<\/a> has often spoken about a failure to optimise the VF-25.<\/p>\n<p>Not only are Haas frequently tinkering with set-up and struggling to find the ideal operating window, but they regularly leave themselves with too much work to do on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Poor qualifying results often put <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/08\/03\/ocon-haas-have-not-been-consistent-enough-this-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Ocon<\/a> and Bearman on the back-foot, forcing them into damage limitation on race days.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily for the Haas duo, more updates will arrive to the VF-25 later in the season.<\/p>\n<h2>Haas plan more updates to the VF-25<\/h2>\n<p>One of the common catchphrases from recent months has been that teams are focusing on 2026.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"qOqXkt3hTzxIlB_5AXhkkw\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2228077440\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'qOqXkt3hTzxIlB_5AXhkkw',sig:'TjjTMkmTKyhXzxJw3ea3EHPD_1r1Upkh11CHQsiPibc=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2228077440',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the majority of squads are dedicating all of their development resources to next year. Very few updates, outside of circuit-specific ones, will be brought to the track after the summer.<\/p>\n<p>In this sense, Haas&#8217; development plan is an outlier compared to others in the paddock.<\/p>\n<p>Much like in previous seasons, Haas aim to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/10\/16\/haas-vf-24-will-look-a-bit-different-after-next-updates\/\" target=\"_self\">bring new components to their home race in COTA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the significance of next year&#8217;s regulations, Ayao Komatsu&#8217;s personnel are not willing to abandon this season.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the prize money on the line, it is understandable that Haas are diverting additional resources to the VF-25.<\/p>\n<p>After all, with rivals completely focused on 2026, even a relatively minor improvement could make the difference.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after a frustrating Hungarian GP, Komatsu discussed the state of play:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We didn\u2019t show what we should be showing today. With how quick the car is, where we should\u2019ve qualified, and the race pace of Bortoleto, there\u2019s no reason we can\u2019t do that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I\u2019m pretty sure Ollie\u2019s car was overbalanced, there\u2019s no way that degradation from Ollie was the limit of the car or driver&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The only way is up, the car is quick, and we have two drivers with potential.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We\u2019ve just struggled putting it together for the last three races.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We need the summer break, refocus, look at ourselves and then think about how we can deliver.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"O_E53oVlTIh1Aftt9BgbnQ\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2228159456\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'O_E53oVlTIh1Aftt9BgbnQ',sig:'2wb0T9eQlHRVQ9iLSiEyYFBa0RZoAuYaGblzDvJLV-w=',w:'594px',h:'385px',items:'2228159456',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<h4>Hitting two birds with one stone<\/h4>\n<p>For obvious reasons, focusing on the 2026 cars will require a significant investment &#8211; both financially and in terms of wind tunnel hours.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, it should not be assumed that starting first on the new regulations will automatically translate into lap-time.<\/p>\n<p>During the 2021 title fight, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/08\/16\/max-verstappen-admits-red-bull-in-rebuilding-phase\/\" target=\"_self\">Red Bull<\/a> continued to push for upgrades on the RB16 &#8211; prioritising that year&#8217;s Championship over the 2022 regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Only a few months after the season concluded, Red Bull found themselves at the top once again with the new regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, as <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/06\/05\/adrian-newey-pursuing-various-avenues-with-2026-aston-martin\/\" target=\"_self\">Adrian Newey<\/a> has explained previously, the Austrian team had a better understanding of ground-effect cars than their rivals.<\/p>\n<p>This meant they produced a faster car, even with a slightly later start.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst Haas do not have the same track record or resources as Red Bull, it would be premature to discredit their development strategy.<\/p>\n<p>It is still plausible for <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/07\/11\/haas-confident-in-vf-25-despite-fall-in-the-standings\/\" target=\"_self\">Haas<\/a> to make progress with the VF-25, whilst also producing a competitive car for 2025.<\/p>\n<p><em>Main photo: James Sutton\/LAT Images (Haas F1 Team)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After finishing a respectable 7th in last year&#8217;s Championship, Haas find themselves second to last in this season&#8217;s standings.
