With just nine points separating Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris<\/a>, there is everything to play for in the Championship battle.<\/p>\n

Norris and Piastri have both enjoyed larger advantages at different stages of the year, and momentum has swung from one side of the garage to the other.<\/p>\n

As it stands, both drivers have reason to believe they can win the title with cleaner execution in the second half of 2025.<\/p>\n

From Piastri’s perspective, eliminating errors is the key to ending the year as Champion.<\/p>\n

Piastri: “Minimising mistakes” the key to securing world title<\/h2>\n

Oscar Piastri’s rise this year has been somewhat unexpected, considering that Norris<\/a> beat the Australian across almost every metric in 2024.<\/p>\n

Piastri deserves praise<\/a> for taking such a significant step forward over the winter, demonstrating a very promising upward trajectory as he’s collected more experience.<\/p>\n

Of course, this is not to say the 24-year-old is without room for improvement this season.<\/p>\n

Aside from his most obvious blunder at the season opener in Australia, fine margins have denied him victory in Silverstone<\/a>, Austria and again in Hungary.<\/p>\n

Considering that every race ends in at least a 14-points swing between the McLaren pair, Piastri was a few key moments away from establishing a bigger advantage in the standings.<\/p>\n

On the flip side of the coin, Piastri will be pleased to enter the summer break in the lead.<\/p>\n

Speaking before last weekend’s Hungarian GP<\/a>, the #81 driver spoke about his priorities in the title fight:<\/p>\n

“The way you win races at the back end of the season is the same way as at the start.<\/em><\/p>\n

“You need to be faster than everyone around you and you need to make the least mistakes possible. That aspect doesn’t really change.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Like I said, it’s great to be consistent, but if you’re consistently being beaten, that’s not a recipe for a championship. It’s a balancing act of both.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Obviously, if you’re a robot, you’d be able to be as fast as possible and make zero mistakes. But we’re all humans, so that’s not possible.<\/em><\/p>\n

“There is going to be an element of minimising mistakes. But you need to be fast at the same time – and you can’t afford to sit back.<\/em><\/p>\n

“If you try to take that approach, you’ll end up being beaten.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Unforced errors become increasingly costly<\/h4>\n

Unlike a Championship battle with several drivers, a two-way fight for the crown can change very quickly.<\/p>\n

It only takes one DNF, for example, to either completely reverse or compound the order in the standings.<\/p>\n

Piastri and Norris will be conscious of this when F1 returns in Zandvoort. Recovering a big points gap only becomes more difficult as fewer rounds remain in the season.<\/p>\n

On paper, with ten Grand Prix left, this year’s fight will still see many twists and turns.<\/p>\n

At the same time, if either Piastri<\/a> or Norris can establish a 25-point advantage or greater over the next few rounds, it will give their rival virtually no margin for error.<\/p>\n

In this sense, F1 is approaching the sharp-end of this year’s all-papaya title fight<\/a>.<\/p>\n
