Russell unphased amidst speculation about Mercedes future<\/h2>\n
Most analysts agree that George Russell has been among the top performers this year.<\/p>\n
With one victory and five podiums to his name in 2025, the British driver has led the way for Mercedes.<\/p>\n His young teammate, Kimi Antonelli<\/a>, has certainly shown great promise in his rookie campaign.<\/p>\n Still, the 84-point gap between the two Mercedes drivers is evidence of Russell’s importance to the team.<\/p>\n For many seasons now, the 27-year-old has delivered consistent results for the Brackley-based operation.<\/p>\n Russell also isn’t afraid of going head-to-head with the very best in Formula 1, including Red Bull’s<\/a> Max Verstappen – who is still linked to a Mercedes seat.<\/p>\n In response to the reports emerging from the paddock, the 4-time winner made his perspective clear in Silverstone:<\/p>\n “Every team has two seats available, and it\u2019s normal that every team is considering what the future holds.<\/em><\/p>\n “I don\u2019t take that personally, because I made it clear from the beginning I\u2019m happy to be teammates with anybody.<\/em><\/p>\n “Of course there\u2019s lots of conversations,” <\/em>Russell continued.<\/p>\n “Lots of rumours and all of these are being pointed towards me.<\/em><\/p>\n “But from my side feel that isn\u2019t really going to be the case. I want to continue with Mercedes into the future.<\/em><\/p>\n “The fact is Toto has never let me down. He\u2019s always given me his word, but he\u2019s also got to do what\u2019s right for his team.<\/em><\/p>\n “Which includes me but it also includes thousands of people who work for Mercedes.<\/em><\/p>\n “For me it\u2019s nothing to worry about – because I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll be going anywhere, and whoever my team mate will be, it doesn\u2019t concern me either. <\/em><\/p>\n “I\u2019m just focused on the driving.”<\/em><\/p>\n At this stage, there are too many question marks to definitively say how talks between Mercedes and Verstappen will conclude.<\/p>\n Verstappen’s existing Red Bull contract does not expire until 2028.
