(Photo by Zak Mauger\/LAT Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Of course, every regulation change offers a different challenge, and 2026 represents a radical change.<\/p>\n<p>Engine development will also be integral, particularly as two new engine manufacturers &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/26\/mattia-binotto-audi-anticipate-engine-deficit-in-2026\/\" target=\"_self\">Audi<\/a> and Red Bull Powertrains &#8211; enter the mix.<\/p>\n<p>For Aston Martin, their hopes are pinned on <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/04\/07\/honda-we-will-have-our-say-on-aston-martin-driver-line-up\/\" target=\"_self\">Honda<\/a> delivering a top power unit in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese manufacturer was slightly late to commit to the 2026 regulations &#8211; officially signing their agreement with Aston at the beginning of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In combination with essentially brand new cars, this creates an element of uncertainty ahead of next year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/06\/05\/adrian-newey-pursuing-various-avenues-with-2026-aston-martin\/\" target=\"_self\">Adrian Newey<\/a> believes there will be plenty of variation across the field:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;There&#8217;s enough flexibility in the regulations, and I&#8217;m sure people will come up with different solutions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Some of those will be dropped over the first two or three years as teams start to converge.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The other aspect of this is that, for the first time I can remember, we&#8217;ve got both the chassis regulations and power unit regulations changing at the same time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;This is&#8230; interesting&#8230; and slightly scary. (Photo by Clive Rose\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A few other small pieces should arrive in the next few rounds &#8211; most likely in Spa &#8211; to conclude the AMR25&#8217;s development.<\/p>\n<p>However, these components were already designed and approved several months ago. Now it is only a matter of production.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of Aston&#8217;s wind tunnel hours, the Silverstone factory are already dedicating all of their time towards <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/07\/11\/f1-cadillac-on-target-with-2026-development\/\" target=\"_self\">2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To some extent, they can be satisfied with their recovery this year. For the first time in years, the team&#8217;s mid-season updates have proven effective.<\/p>\n<p>Critically, their <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/24\/aston-martin-impress-in-monaco-practice-with-amr25-upgrades\/\" target=\"_self\">upgrades to the AMR25<\/a> in Imola and Silverstone were corroborated and checked in their new wind tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>This has given Aston Martin a chance to validate their latest development tools.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Newey and his technical personnel can be more confident heading into next season.<\/p>\n<p><em>Main photo: Zak Mauger\/LAT Images (Aston Martin media gallery)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Few engineers, either within or outside of Formula 1, have a bigger reputation than that of Adrian Newey.
