It was a relatively quiet weekend for Red Bull in Monaco, as Max Verstappen<\/a> was forced to settle for 4th place.<\/p>\n

After a convincing victory in Imola, Verstappen’s RB21 had no answer for McLaren or Ferrari at the principality.<\/p>\n

Yuki Tsunoda<\/a>, meanwhile, was largely helpless in the Grand Prix – with a poor qualifying ruining his chances of scoring points.<\/p>\n

Still, in terms of the drivers’ Championship, Verstappen kept himself within touching distance of the McLaren duo.<\/p>\n

According to team principal Christian Horner, this was Red Bull’s objective heading into the Spanish GP – when the long-awaited new technical directive will come into play.<\/p>\n

Red Bull unable to match McLaren in Monaco<\/h2>\n

Traditionally, the hyper-specific demands of the Monaco circuit has provided difficulties for dominant teams in Formula 1.<\/p>\n

Mercedes<\/a>, for example, were often vulnerable to Red Bull at Ferrari<\/a> in Monte Carlo – even during the peak of their powers.<\/p>\n

In a similar way, Red Bull were vulnerable to Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin in 2023 – whilst Charles Leclerc emerged victorious in 2024.<\/p>\n

With this track record, the Milton Keynes squad were not necessarily optimistic heading into this weekend.<\/p>\n

Verstappen established his expectations immediately after Friday Practice, downplaying his chances of fighting for victory.<\/p>\n
