during Monaco GP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lewis Hamilton managed to gain a few positions after his 3-place grid drop in qualifying, finishing the Monaco GP in 5th.<\/p>\n<p>The 7-time Champion managed to execute an overcut on VCARB&#8217;s Isack Hadjar, whilst also benefiting from the retirement of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/25\/alonso-hopeful-about-aston-martin-progress-after-monaco-qualifying\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Fernando Alonso<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After the first phase of pit-stops, Hamilton was quite comfortably running in P5 &#8211; facing no threats behind and too far back to bother the top four.<\/p>\n<p>This, however, did not prevent some confusion between the British driver and his race engineer.<\/p>\n<p>Not for the first time this year, Hamilton and his first line of communication at the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/24\/max-verstappen-weary-of-ferrari-threat-in-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Ferrari<\/a> pit wall, Ricky Adami, were not in sync.<\/p>\n<h2>Hamilton still gelling at Ferrari<\/h2>\n<p>For slightly over a decade, Lewis Hamilton and race engineer Peter &#8216;Bono&#8217; Bonnington former a winning partnership at Mercedes.<\/p>\n<p>Their excellent communication, among other things, epitomised the relentless efficiency at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/12\/toto-wolff-confident-hamilton-can-rediscover-best-form\/\" target=\"_self\">Mercedes<\/a> during their dominant years.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, when Hamilton&#8217;s Ferrari move was first announced, there were reports that Bono was considering joining the 40-year-old in Maranello.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"NZ9P-KxAQkxjA4ws3HJeGQ\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; resulting in a top three finish.<\/p>\n<p>On other occasions, however, a lack of clarity has prevented the #44 car from having smoother races.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend in <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/25\/carlos-sainz-unhappy-with-mandatory-two-stop-race-in-monaco\/\" target=\"_self\">Monaco<\/a> became the most recent example of this awkward communication.<\/p>\n<h4>Hamilton explains Monaco confusion<\/h4>\n<p>Perhaps most bafflingly, though, there was no pressure to trigger any kind of miscommunication or confusion.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/05\/vasseur-ferrari-did-a-good-job-handling-hamilton-leclerc-swap\/\" target=\"_self\">Hamilton<\/a> effectively running on his own, it would have only taken a few messages for Adami to explain the race status.<\/p>\n<p>This didn&#8217;t happen though, with Hamilton instead left asking his engineer for the gap to the drivers ahead &#8211; only to receive no response.<\/p>\n<p>A few minutes later, the British driver even asked if Adami was upset with him &#8211; searching for some clarity on the lack of communication.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"UAJDmM8uR7hYCIF-F5plGA\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2216988950\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'UAJDmM8uR7hYCIF-F5plGA',sig:'XQegu-AC2U_eIstMybefYh2M1_CC3SuClqREmvgVQD8=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2216988950',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>There was no response to this request, which came during his cool-down lap after the chequered flag.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst Hamilton did not want to directly address this issue post-race, he still outlined some of his question marks throughout the GP:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I can&#8217;t comment on the rest of the race, for me I was in the middle of nowhere,&#8221;<\/em> he explained to Sky Sports F1.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I started seventh, was behind two cars for some time, managed to clear them, then I was in no man&#8217;s land after that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The gap was relatively big, and I was not racing anyone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I needed a Safety Car or something to come into play, but it didn&#8217;t happen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It was pretty straightforward from there.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The information [from his race engineer] wasn&#8217;t exactly that clear. I didn&#8217;t really understand &#8216;this is our race&#8217;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know what I was fighting for.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Was I fighting for the next spot ahead?
