(Jared C. But we are back, and it is a homecoming for the series, with the second race of the Charlotte Motor Speedway Memorial Day weekend.

Last year, it was Chase Elliott and the Hendrick Motorsports Xfinity Series team taking the checkered flag home. This year, William Byron is piloting the #17 Chevy for Hendrick. Can he make it two in a row for the home team?

Race Preview:

The BetMGM 300 is a 300-mile, 200-lap race around the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway. Stage cautions will be flown on laps 45 and 90, and the checkered flag on lap 200. A total of 1,651,939 dollars is available in the prize purse. Goodyear is bringing the left side tires used at Texas and the right sides from Rockingham. Teams will have 6 sets of tires for qualifying and the race.

The Track: Charlotte Motor Speedway

Charlotte Motor Speedway, located in Concord, North Carolina, opened in 1960 as a premier venue for stock car racing. The first race track to have lights and host a night race. Featuring 24 degrees of banking in the turns and 5 degrees on the straights, Charlotte is the quintessential 1.5-mile track in NASCAR. This is a home race for many teams, with shops located a short distance away.

This race will be the 80th race at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Xfinity Series. The first race was in 1982, with Hall of Fame class of 2026 inductee Harry Gant winning the race. Like the Truck Series, Kyle Busch is also the king of Charlotte in the Xfinity Series with 9 wins, followed by Mark Martin with 6 wins. Kyle Busch set the lap record in 2020, with a 29.962-second lap.

Xfinity Series Points Standings:

Here are the points standings following Texas:

1. Justin Allgaier: 471
2. Austin Hill: 420
3. Sam Mayer: 391
4. Jesse Love: 374
5. Brandon Jones: 326
6. Carson Kvapil*: 324
7. Jeb Burton: 320
8. Ryan Sieg: 317
9. Sammy Smith: 312
10. Harrison Burton: 307

READ MORE: Kyle Larson Wins NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Subbing for JR Motorsports

Drivers To Watch:

Many drivers are joining the field for Saturday’s Xfinity series race. Austin Dillon will drive the #3 Chevy for Richard Childress Racing. William Byron will drive the #17 for Hendrick Motorsports. Chase Briscoe will pilot the #19 Supra for JGR. Katherine Legge continues her drive with Jordan Anderson Racing. Carson Ware will drive the #35 for Joey Gase Racing. Lastly, Brad Perez will drive the #45 for Alpha Prime Racing.

William Byron is one of my picks to win this race. Chase Elliott took this car to victory lane last year, and I think with Byron’s talent, it could find itself back in victory lane again.

Junior Motorsports has been strong here. They won with Josh Berry in 2022 and Justin Allgaier in 2023. Last year, they finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Keep an eye out for Dale Jr’s Chevys Saturday afternoon.

Part of that JR Motorsports threesome finish last year was Brandon Jones. Jones already has a victory this year with a win at Darlington. I think if you like Toyota, go with Jones to win tomorrow.

READ MORE: Brandon Jones Bests Cup Stars to Win Xfinity Series Race at Darlington

Sam Mayer was also a part of the JRM finish in 2024, but now is with Haas Factory Team and Ford. He has been strong in 2025, but he just needs to get that first win to break out. Look for Mayer and the #41 team on Saturday.

How To Watch The Xfinity Series at Charlotte:

Here is the schedule for the BetMGM 300 at Charlotte.

Saturday, May 24

Practice

11:00 AM Eastern

Coverage is on the CW App

Qualifying

12:10 PM Eastern

Coverage continues on the CW APP

The BetMGM 300

4:30 PM Eastern

Coverage is on the CW, PRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Stay tuned to Last Word on Motorsports for all the news from Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Xfinity Series.

Main Photo: Jared C.
