The Envision driver finished the race ahead of Oliver Rowland and Nick Cassidy.<\/p>\n<h2>Tough Fight in Race 2 at the Monaco E-Prix as Cassidy Makes a Great Comeback<\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"\" data-index=\"0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/03\/formula-e-oliver-rowland-extends-his-championship-lead-in-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Oliver Rowland<\/a>, the winner of Race 1 at the Formula E Monaco E-Prix, secured pole position for the seventh round of the season. A<\/span><span class=\"\" data-index=\"1\">ll twenty-two drivers navigated the opening corners unscathed when the lights went out.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Track conditions were treacherous. Heavy rain had left the circuit with minimal grip, creating a challenging surface for all. By lap three, several drivers had already begun activating their first Attack Mode.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"667\" data-end=\"817\">The battle for the lead intensified after five laps. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/12\/30\/jean-eric-vergne-the-only-double-champion-in-formula-e-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Jean-\u00c9ric Vergne<\/a>, who had started in third, passed Nyck de Vries and began closing in on Rowland.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"\" data-index=\"5\">Full Course Yellow<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1041\">On lap seven, the race director called a Full Course Yellow: Lucas di Grassi\u2019s Lola had collided with the barriers. Rowland had yet to deploy either of his two available Attack Modes. Further back, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/02\/21\/maximilian-guenther-career-how-the-german-arrived-in-formula-e\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Maximilian G\u00fcnther<\/a> lost places to S\u00e9bastien Buemi and Antonio F\u00e9lix da Costa\u2019s Porsche.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1278\" data-end=\"1416\">Yellow flags reappeared on lap thirteen as the Safety Car was deployed. As the track began to dry, the Briton took several risks. He finally activated Attack Mode on lap 18, conceding just one position.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1932\">Initially, the added power did not work in his favour. Rowland went off track in a battle with de Vries, but recovered, rejoining in second. His Nissan showed no signs of damage and remained firmly in pursuit of Vergne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1934\" data-end=\"2221\">Rowland launched a decisive move and overtook Vergne after a tense battle on lap 19. De Vries seized the moment and slipped into second. He soon activated his final Attack Mode, but his team promptly informed him that his earlier overtake on Vergne had been deemed irregular.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2223\" data-end=\"2414\">In response, Rowland eased off, allowing Vergne to retake the position. Meanwhile, Buemi surged into the lead, followed by de Vries in second, with Vergne in third and Rowland down to fourth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2416\" data-end=\"2620\">As the final laps approached, Nick Cassidy\u2019s Jaguar and both <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/05\/01\/formula-e-are-the-porsche-drivers-the-favourites-for-the-championship\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Porsche<\/a>s joined the front runners. The New Zealander, who had started from the back of the grid, had impressively gained eleven positions.<\/p>\n<h3>Final Push for the Podium<\/h3>\n<p>The podium places were settled in the closing stages. Cassidy set his sights on Rowland, while Buemi began to pull away at the front.
