It would be Elliott’s only win of 2024, Can Chase break the winless streak he reset here last year? Or will another driver walk away victorious?

READ MORE: Chase Elliott Scores a Texas-Sized Win, breaking 42-race winless streak

Race Preview:

The Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway is a 400-mile, 267-lap race around the 1.5-mile track. Stage cautions will be on laps 80 and 165, with the checkered flag flying on lap 267. A total of 11,055,250 dollars is in the winning prize purse for the race. The Cup cars will be using the goodyear tires most recently used at Darlington. Teams will have 9 sets of tires, 8 for the race and 1 set from qualifying.

The Track: Texas Motor Speedway

With construction beginning in 1995 and opening in 1996, the Texas Motor Speedway was constructed by Speedway Motorsports, which owns many tracks across the United States. It was originally constructed with 24 degrees of banking in turns 1-4, but in 2017, turns 1-2 were taken down to 20 degrees. The front and back straights have five degrees of banking. The 2017 repave also saw the track widen.

Jimmie Johnson holds the wins record at Texas with 7 wins. Kyle Busch has the active driver wins record with 4 wins. Kevin Harvick set the Cup Series lap record, putting down a 0:27.617 second lap.

Cup Series Points Standings:

Here are the points following last weeks race at Talladega:

1. William Byron: 389
2. Kyle Larson: 358
3. Denny Hamlin: 337
4. Chase Elliott: 317
5. Christopher Bell: 307
6. Tyler Reddick: 303
7. Bubba Wallace: 296
8. Ryan Blaney: 276
9. Alex Bowman: 274
10. Ross Chastain: 246

Drivers To Watch:

Two drivers are joining the Cup Series field for the Wurth 400. Jesse Love will race the #62 for Beard Motorsports, part of his part-time starts this year. Chad Finchum will race the #66 for Garage 66/MBM Motorsports.

It seems like I am a broken record, constantly picking Kyle Larson to win all these races. But the truth of the reality is that he is the favorite week in and week out to win. It seems he has gotten this car under control and understands it now. Last year he led 77 laps in this race, the most of all drivers. BetUS has his odds at +350 and ESPNBet a bit higher at +375 to win. Larson is the guy to beat right now.

Tyler Reddick and Denny Hamlin both led 37 laps in last years race. While Reddick has a win at Texas in the Next Gen, Hamlin does not. But Hamlin has a great average start and finish here, an average of 9.6 starting position and 15 finishing. Reddick has an average of 7.6 starting and finishing of 10th. These two are my picks for Toyota.

Brad Keselowski has been inching away with his finishes towards a win. 8th in 2022, 7th in 2023, and 2nd in 2024. He won the pole in 2022. I think Brad can get a win here this weekend.

How To Watch The Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway:

Here is the Cup Series weekend schedule:

Saturday, May 2nd

Practice

11:00 AM Eastern

Coverage is on Amazon Prime Sports

Qualifying

12:10 PM Eastern

Coverage continues on Prime

Sunday, May 3rd

The Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway

3:30 PM Eastern

Coverage is on Fox Sports 1, Driver in Car Cameras on HBO Max, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Stay connected to Last Word On Motorsports to stay up to date on all the news from the Wurth 400 and the NASCAR Cup Series

Featured Image Credit: Jared C.
