They were disappointed. The Big One never took place, which was odd given the history of it at this track. Though there was plenty of strategy at play, as drivers tried to outmaneuver each other on the pit lane. When the race was all said and done, Austin Cindric finally had his luck change at Talladega.

Cindric didn’t have the help of his usual Ford teammates this time. Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson gave Cindric the push he needed to win.

Austin Cindric Wins Pretty Tame Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega

This race went about how you’d expect, as everyone got three and four wide very quickly. From the drop of the green flag, this race turned into a saving-fuel race. That’s how the races at Daytona and Talladega have turned out for the majority of the racing. It’s not the driver’s fault, but that’s just the name of the game in superspeedway racing these days.

Changes for the race lead weren’t lacking, as there were well over 40-plus lead changes throughout the 180 laps on Sunday. Most of the time, it was a fight between the manufacturers, with Ford having control early.

🚨 FOUR-WIDE 🚨 pic.twitter.com/tUDTwJG68Q

— NASCAR (@NASCAR) April 27, 2025

Green Flag Pit Stop Causes a Mess

As drivers conserved fuel enough to get the first stage to less than 30 to go, cars started to make green flag stops. It was during those stops that the first major incident of the day occurred. As a large group of drivers, including Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, and Ryan Blane,y looked to pit, along with several others. A miscommunication saw Keselowski and Busch make contact, along with Blaney, and crash.

Trouble at the entrance to pit road!

The yellow is out on Lap 43. pic.twitter.com/dmdo5zwH3B

— NASCAR (@NASCAR) April 27, 2025

Pit road miscue some up this race at Talladega. Especially for three drivers who have all won at the track at least twice in their careers. The wreck knocked both Blaney and Keselowski out of the race, not even 50 laps in.

That made for an intense restart with less than 12 laps to go in the opening stage. Trouble befell two of the leaders right after the restart as a push gone wrong from Denny Hamlin sent his teammate Christopher Bell down into Chris Buescher, with both slamming the inside wall. Three-wide fuel saving. This time, things got a little difficult for plenty of drivers, but on the pit lane.

Speeding penalties became the big trend during the second stage. It became quite costly for some big names. Shane Van Gisbergen, who had been keeping his nose clean all race, got busted when he and the four Hendrick Cars made their stop in the closing laps of stage two. It was during that stop that Chase Elliott also got nabbed by the speed police on the pit lane.

Luckily for Elliott, he didn’t lose his lap on his pass through. While the pitlane issues were happening, the Toyotas were taking control of the stage two fight. Bubba Wallace was able to hold off the Fords of Joey Logano and Austin Cindric for the stage win. But it also happened to be a moment that Logano wasn’t too thrilled with his teammate Cindric over.

Logano went on a profanity-filled rant about his teammate.

” Way to go to Austin, way to go, you stupid f**k,” Logano said via his radio.

Listen in on the No. 22 radio following the stage. pic.twitter.com/aVfokfkOeF

— NASCAR (@NASCAR) April 27, 2025

That was some real heat from Logano, over a stage win. I mean, for context, Cindric let off because he would’ve hit Logano and probably caused a big pileup. So good for Austin in that moment. It sure sounds like Mr. three-time Cup Champion was acting out again. Nonetheless, stage two was tame to say the least.

Strategy Doesn’t Work for Toyota, but it does for Austin Cindric.

The run to the finish was building to be competitive. In a way, it ended up being, as drivers tried to save fuel for as long as possible. It got to a point where the Joe Gibbs Toyotas had control at the front. Ty Gibbs had to have been feeling good with 45 laps to go when he led his first laps of the 2025 season. That quickly turned shallow for the Toyota’s though, as they were the first to make their final pit stops under green.

Green-flag pit stops will set up our finish!

We're nearing 20 to go at @TALLADEGA! pic.twitter.com/XvuBMf8Uql

— NASCAR (@NASCAR) April 27, 2025

They got out nicely, as did Carson Hocevar in a Chevrolet. But the other pit strategies worked out a lot better. Along with one crazy, sacrificial-like block from Ross Chastain.

Who took advantage, well, Austin Cindric for starters, along with the four Hendrick cars. Austin didn’t pit with his other Ford teammates; he came down during the last group of cars to pit.

A fun fight to the finish was building, as a Ford in Cindric had a Chevy in Larson behind him, on the bottom. While Ryan Preece was seeking his first career win with the Chevy of William Byron behind him.

The final fight to the finish didn’t end up being much, as Larson gave Cindric the push he needed to get his third career Cup win. The photo will be remembered as two lap cars were right ahead of the leaders as they crossed the line.

What a finish at @TALLADEGA! pic.twitter.com/xvzKkWgprM

— NASCAR (@NASCAR) April 27, 2025

Amid Cindric’s win.
