Ahead of the Jeddah round, Gabriele Mini spoked with selected media, including LWOS, about what to learn from Prema’s performances in Bahrain.<\/p>\n
Bahrain proved to be a great challenge for Gabriele Min\u00ec and Sebastian Montoya in Prema Racing<\/a>. Both drivers struggled to get any points and the performance was not what was expected.<\/p>\n This is why the Jeddah<\/a> weekend is very important for the Prema Racing drivers, who will need to deliver their best, after scoring so little points since the beginning of the season.<\/p>\n Min\u00ec suggests that what we’ve seen at Shakir is not Prema Racing’s true potential and the underperformance of last week came very unexpectedly.<\/p>\n 2024 should have been one of Prema’s strongest seasons in Formula 2 on the paper.<\/p>\n The main reason was the lineup they chose, made by Andrea Kimi Antonelli<\/a> and Oliver Bearman. Both drivers have proven many times to have great talent that allowed them to make a name in the world of feeder series.<\/p>\n In addition, both of them signed with F1 teams very young and therefore had an academy to help them in their career.<\/p>\n However, even if the drivers tried to extrapolate the best from the car, the results struggled to arrive. This is why Prema Racing ended 2024 in fifth position in the Teams’ championship, never fighting for either title.<\/p>\n After this disappointing page but with booth drivers off to Formula 1, Prema Racing found themselves needing two new drivers for 2025. They chose Gabriele Mini<\/a>, already racing with them in Formula 3, and Sebastian Montoya who competed in the same championship as the Italian but with Campos Racing.<\/p>\n The expectations for this year were not as high as last season, seeing the difficulties of the Italian team. However, Prema Racing is one of the oldest and most successful teams in the feeder series.<\/p>\n They have raced in almost every junior championship and obtained important results every year. This is why one should never dismiss them.<\/p>\n The start of the 2025 F2<\/a> season was bittersweet for them as their great pace allowed them to get the pole position with Mini. However, the Italian driver was penalized for impeding and was relegated to three positions in both races of the Melbourne weekend.<\/p>\n The Italian started in 13th position on Saturday and managed to get in the points and collect the fastest lap. Ollie Bearman failed to collect any points while Antonelli only managed to get one in the Feature race.<\/p>\n Coming back this year, after the in-season testing just a week before, the Prema Racing driver was confident the results would have been different.<\/p>\n However, they still struggled in Sakhir and it did not go unnoticed. Here is how Mini comments on Prema Racing’s performances in Bahrain<\/a>:<\/p>\n “Last week was not what we expected, especially after the tests. However, in Australia we were really competitive, we got pole, we got the fastest lap and we made up quite a bit of place in the Sprint Race.<\/em><\/p>\n “So I think Bahrain is quite a specific and unique track in terms of asphalt compared to any other tracks. Therefore I don’t think it really reflects the performance of Prema.<\/em><\/p>\n “As we’ve known, every track and weekend will be different.
