{"id":30848,"date":"2025-02-23T17:22:57","date_gmt":"2025-02-23T22:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/?p=30848"},"modified":"2025-02-23T17:22:57","modified_gmt":"2025-02-23T22:22:57","slug":"how-aston-martin-plan-to-optimise-adrian-newey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/02\/23\/how-aston-martin-plan-to-optimise-adrian-newey\/","title":{"rendered":"How Aston Martin plan to optimise Adrian Newey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aston Martin were one of the biggest disappointments in 2024, as they progressively lost ground to the front-runners and were relegated to the midfield scrap.<\/p>\n<p>Discrepancies between their wind tunnel data and the AMR24&#8217;s on-track performances prevented the British team from making improvements with their upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>If anything, Aston Martin&#8217;s upgrades created more problems than solutions last season.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/02\/22\/alonso-newey-will-also-have-more-impact-than-any-driver\/\" target=\"_self\">Adrian Newey<\/a> set to begin work at the factory in about 10 days, there are several elements than need to fall in place.<\/p>\n<h2>Newey is just one piece of a very complex puzzle<\/h2>\n<p>Success in Formula 1 is not easy to come by. This is hardly a controversial statement.<\/p>\n<p>Immense financial commitment is necessary to develop the necessary infrastructure and hire the quality and quantity of personnel to win races and Championships.<\/p>\n<p>With that said, simply throwing money at a problem and out-spending rivals does not guarantee success.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/01\/17\/how-aston-martin-plan-to-reach-90-upgrade-success-rate\/\" target=\"_self\">Aston Martin<\/a> have shown tremendous ambition in recent seasons. The Silverstone-based operation will benefit from a state of the art wind tunnel, simulator and factory campus moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, every element &#8211; at least theoretically &#8211; will be in place to fight at the front.<\/p>\n<p>Honda could also provide a decisive edge in twelve months time, assuming they can develop a leading engine for the new regulations.<\/p>\n<p>However, for all these positive developments, there is still a lot of work to do. Fundamentally, Aston Martin face an intense period of integration over the coming year.<\/p>\n<p>With teams already diverting their resources to 2026, Adrian Newey will have little time to acclimatise to the team.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the responsibility of Andy Cowell, CEO and team principal, to ensure that Newey hits the ground running &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/12\/f1-news-aston-martin-director-dan-fallows-leaves-role-for-newey\/\" target=\"_self\">alongside the other high-profile figures at Silverstone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"ML6USLzzQlhwTw6gtWZLgw\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2199787477\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'ML6USLzzQlhwTw6gtWZLgw',sig:'4FLvOrhWtbqWrk2vpM60cx1P7VAzigqGHgVz7SuOugY=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2199787477',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<h4>A transitional period for Aston Martin<\/h4>\n<p>Following <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/02\/19\/alonso-2025-aston-martin-is-90-different-to-predecessor\/\" target=\"_self\">the AMR25&#8217;s<\/a> launch, Cowell has shown optimism about the season ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the British team principal remains aware of how transformative the 2026 regulations will be:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m excited to get this season started and see the AMR25 hit the track tomorrow in Bahrain.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It&#8217;s the culmination of tremendous hard work and dedication at the AMR Technology Campus. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We are all inspired by the DNA of Aston Martin and we have a relentless pursuit of excellence, both on and off the track.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;For this year&#8217;s car we&#8217;ve really taken on board the lessons and feedback from last season.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We&#8217;ve focused on creating a more driveable car for Lance and Fernando and we&#8217;ve pushed hard to make it more benign.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We expect it to be a tight and competitive field from the get-go in Australia, so we know it won&#8217;t be easy. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Our aims are realistic with a view to how we can continually improve in all areas, especially as we, like all teams, approach a vital shake-up of the regulations in 2026.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Although Aston Martin are unlikely to fight at the front this year, that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2025\/02\/07\/adrian-newey-reveals-chances-of-working-on-astons-2025-car\/\" target=\"_self\">does not make the 2025 season a write-off<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year will be crucial in ensuring that all the new facilities and development tools at their disposal are working as expected &#8211; and therefore capable of delivering when the next generation of F1 cars arrives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aston Martin were one of the biggest disappointments in 2024, as they progressively lost ground to the front-runners and were relegated to the midfield scrap.
