Putting aside the ambiguity of what constitutes ‘moral injury’, the FIA’s general approach towards the behaviour of drivers is clearly evolving.<\/p>\n
In a recent interview, President Ben Sulayem<\/a> revealed a range of measures that are being considered by the Federation. Among these considerations is the potential to stop the broadcasting of team radios.<\/p>\n Prior to last season, it cannot be said that driver profanity – or general conduct – was ever a major talking point.<\/p>\n There are few notable incidents of F1 drivers causing significant controversy outside of the track – whether in media interviews or otherwise.<\/p>\n With FOM (Formula 1 Management) ensuring that any swearing in team radio messages are bleeped, it cannot be said this topic was ever a huge issue.<\/p>\n However, a direct head-to-head between Max Verstappen and the FIA<\/a> last season saw tensions dramatically escalate.<\/p>\n The Dutchman was penalised with community service for swearing in an official press conference. What followed was a swift message from the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers’ Association), where the F1 grid broadly showed its support for Verstappen<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a statement released by the GPDA last November, drivers referenced Ben Sulayem’s conduct, urging “the FIA president to also consider his own tone and language when talking to our member drivers.”<\/em><\/p>\nThe FIA imposes stricter standards<\/h2>\n
