Lewis Hamilton<\/a>‘s former personal trainer Angela Cullen has united with the Briton at Ferrari ahead of a landmark 2025 F1 season. Cullen has been associated with Hamilton even before joining Ferrari. She has been his trainer for over 7 years, having joined forces back in 2016.<\/p>\n

Cullen\u2019s Motorsport Career, and a Big Move To Join Hamilton at Ferrari<\/h2>\n

While growing up Cullen dreamed of working in the field of sport. Born not far from Auckland, she quickly made her sporting presence felt.<\/p>\n

Cullen represented New Zealand as a hockey player for 7 years. She first played for the Kiwis at 15, making headlines as an aspiring sportsperson.<\/p>\n

However, her natural interests gravitated towards physiotherapy and health science, marked by a bachelor’s degree in this field from the UK. This move opened up several opportunities.<\/p>\n

These opportunities included working with the British triathlon team and athletics teams in the Olympics. Her efforts with the 4 x 100m relay team resulted in a gold medal for the UK in 2004.<\/p>\n

Such opportunities only boosted her prospects. An intensive bike ride from Tierra del Fuego to Colombia rejuvenated the Kiwi, who returned home to work as a senior advisor at SPARC High Performance.<\/p>\n

Cullen\u2019s First Interaction With Lewis Hamilton and F1<\/h3>\n

It was in 2015 when Cullen joined Hintsa Performance, with founder Aki Hintsa, who was a close mentor to Hamilton. Hintsa’s claim to fame included turning multiple racers into world champions from the 1980s, with Hamilton among his top-flight clientele.<\/p>\n

However, Hintsa’s death in 2016 opened up a golden opportunity for Cullen to become Hamilton’s trainer. This was something she gleefully grabbed with both hands.<\/p>\n

The duo developed a strong bond at Mercedes, with Hamilton winning four consecutive world championships<\/a> alongside Cullen. It was at the peak of his powers, in 2020,<\/a> when Hamilton spoke of Cullen’s influence:<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople for sure won\u2019t understand it, naturally, because they see it from a distance, but she has been one of the greatest things that\u2019s happened to me in my life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been fortunate to work with a lot of people\u2026 and she\u2019s the single hardest-working woman that I get to be around.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hamilton went on to describe her as a selfless and focused individual. He further shared how Cullen was always a positive force in his life at Mercedes.<\/p>\n

It was in 2023 when Cullen stood down from her role as Hamilton’s trainer. She transferred her skills to IndyCar, becoming Ganassi racer Marcus Armstrong’s trainer.<\/p>\n

However, the pull of F1 was too strong, and Cullen has since reunited with the 7-time world champion ahead of his fresh start with Scuderia Ferrari in 2025.<\/p>\n

She will work alongside the Briton while reuniting with another close aide to Hamilton, Marc Hynes. Hynes worked as Hamilton’s manager, overseeing his Project 44 venture between 2015 and 2021.<\/p>\n

How Cullen Can Help Hamilton Ease in at Ferrari<\/h3>\n

Lewis Hamilton’s January<\/a> has been a major talking point amongst motorsport circles. His factory visit to Maranello and the subsequent photoshoot eventually became the most liked F1 post of all time.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, to adapt to the features of a Ferrari F1 car, Hamilton has recently tested older Ferrari machinery at Fiorano and Barcelona. His visit to the Maranello factory included meeting the staff alongside top management.<\/p>\n

It tends to be difficult when someone finds themselves in a new environment. Even more so in Hamilton’s case, having been at Mercedes<\/a> for over a decade.<\/p>\n

Despite making his best efforts to ease the transition by learning Italian<\/a>, it will take a certain period for Hamilton to feel at home in a new environment.<\/p>\n

Having Cullen’s presence will help him feel more at home at Ferrari, and help ease the integration process into the Scuderia. Many believe Cullen has always had a significant impact on Hamilton’s overall performance.<\/p>\n

The Briton has scored an average of 17.2 points per race when Cullen was his trainer. However, that figure dropped to 10.2 ever since he and the New Zealander parted ways ahead of the 2023 F1 season.<\/p>\n

This alone is why Cullen’s presence in the Ferrari garage could bring a world of good to Hamilton. After finishing 7th in the 2024 standings, Hamilton’s worst F1 season by position, this would be a massive boost for the Briton as he prepares to chase for an unprecedented 8th world championship at Ferrari.<\/p>\n
