His rookie season ended in 22nd, which doesn&#8217;t capture his performance, particularly in the second half. He plans to build on this in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at his his journey through the Road to Indy driver development program, and how he won three championships in four years.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Christian Rasmussen on competing as INDYCAR SERIES rookie, goals for 2024 season | Over the Wall\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sNyS_tXaRyg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><b>Overseas Racing Career:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After starting his open-wheel racing career in his home country of Denmark, where he competed in the F4 Danish Championship and Danish Formula Ford Championship, Rasmussen moved to the US in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There he competed in the Formula 4 United States Championship, joining Jay Howard&#8217;s Motorsports Driver Development, a team he would be with for four years.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his first season overseas he managed five wins which was more than anybody else, eight podium finishes, and third in the championship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2019, Rasmussen went on to compete in the highly competitive USF2000 National Championship.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This championship was new to Christian and the team but that did not phase them one bit. In his rookie campaign, he managed to finish 3rd with 3 wins and the most points out of everyone in the 2nd half of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Danish driver remained in the series for the 2020 season, this time to complete the first leg of one of the best driver development programs in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Road to Indy<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires is a driver development program that provides a unique scholarship-funded path to reach the NTT IndyCar Series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduates include NTT IndyCar drivers Colton Herta, Josef Newgarden, Pato O\u2019Ward, and Felix Rosenqvist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.usf2000.com\/about\/usf-pro-championships\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USF2000 Championship<\/a> at the time was the first step on the Road to Indy ladder and with a season under his belt, Christian essentially dominated the field.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 17 contests he earned nine victories, including the first six races of the year, eight poles, and landed on the podium ten times. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His performance allowed him to clinch the championship title at New Jersey Motorsports Park, with two races to spare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The year after he went on to the second leg, the Indy Pro 2000 Championship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The step up seemed to not phase Rasmussen as he won the championship after winning seven races, earning two poles, and ending with twelve podium finishes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Dec. 2021, it was announced that the Dane would compete in Indy Lights, currently known as Indy NXT, for <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2022\/10\/18\/indy-lights-3-takeaways-from-the-2022-season\/\" target=\"_self\">Andretti Autosport in 2022<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final leg of Road to Indy proved to be more of a struggle to adapt to. That season saw him finishing sixth in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2022\/07\/04\/indy-lights-3-takeaways-from-mid-ohio\/\" target=\"_self\">final points standings<\/a>, winning just two races.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2023, he remained in the series, this time driving for <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2023\/03\/05\/indy-nxt-five-takeaways-from-the-grand-prix-of-st-petersburg\/\" target=\"_self\">HMD Motorsports<\/a> with Dale Coyne Racing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His first-year experience seemed beneficial as he became the 2023 INDY NXT By Firestone champion, marking his third championship in the past four years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hu4lMIPmkco?si=kRQTeChEbZRivt__\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/02\/off-season-updates-the-new-faces-in-indy-nxt\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Off Season Updates: The New Faces in INDY NXT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><b>Moving up to the Big Leagues:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Road to Indy program paid off as it announced that in 2024 Christian would compete in all road and street courses and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/05\/21\/who-are-the-rookie-class-for-the-108th-indy-500\/\" target=\"_self\">Indianapolis 500<\/a> with Ed Carpenter Racing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This season was a bit of a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/06\/09\/road-america-2024-how-will-power-ended-his-2-year-win-drought\/\" target=\"_self\">learning curve<\/a> for Christian but he showed progression over the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the first seven races, Rasmussen had a 21.28 average finishing position, then improved to 16.57 over the second half.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The races at Laguna Seca and Mid-Ohio showed a shift in the right direction.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He managed to finish thirteenth and ninth in the respective races.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Initially, the Indy 500 was set to be his sole oval race of the season, and he achieved the best rookie finish in 12th place.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, with three oval races still to be held, team owner Ed Carpenter opted to give Rasmussen a chance to compete in those events as well. The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Milwaukee Mile Race 1 saw him come in 11th, Race 2 in 16th and finished the season finale at Nashville Superspeedway in 14th.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christian Rasmussen&#8217;s effort landed him a full-time opportunity in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/09\/12\/preparing-for-the-2025-indycar-silly-season\/\" target=\"_self\">No. 21 Chevrolet for 2025<\/a> teaming with Alexander Rossi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>A Big 2025 Season:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a season under his belt, the newly 24-year-old <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.indycar.com\/news\/2024\/09\/09-25-ecr-2025-lineup\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wants to take a bigger step<\/a> up performance-wise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy rookie year in INDYCAR was full of firsts, and I can\u2019t wait to bring everything I\u2019ve learned into my second season. I\u2019m extremely grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to teaming up with Alexander (Rossi) to push the team forward and fight toward the front of the grid more consistently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking at his career, when the Dane did spend another season in a series it resulted in a championship.
