Katherine Legge\u2019s career resume gets even longer as she adds the Chili Bowl and the ARCA Menards Series to a resume that contains Formula E, F3, IMSA, and being the fastest-qualifying woman in Indy 500 history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Born to Race: Katherine Legge<\/h2>\n

Katherine Legge\u2019s racing resume is a long time in the making. She has a wealth of experience that spans over 25 years across various motorsport disciplines, including notable series such as Formula E, Formula 3, IMSA, and IndyCar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now she is adding The Chili Bowl and ARCA <\/a> to that list. Let’s take a closer look at her already extensive and rapidly advancing career in the world of motorsports.<\/span><\/p>\n

Making History:<\/b><\/h3>\n

Before her move to the States, the British native had already started making a name for herself by participating in several developmental open-wheel series in Britain, including Formula Three, Formula Renault, and Formula Ford.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She even started making it into the history books. Katherine became the first woman to achieve a pole in a Zetec race in 2000, beat Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen’s lap record in 2001, and received BRDC’s “Rising Star” award.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She continued to create history as she competed in the Toyota Atlantic Championship in 2005, winning the series opener in Long Beach in her first career start to become the first woman to win a developmental open-wheel race in North America. She finished the season third in the championship with three wins and five podiums.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In November of that year, she became the first woman to test a Formula One car since Sarah Fisher in 2002. She joined Minardi\u2019s final testing session at Vallelunga in Italy, completing 27 laps.<\/span><\/p>\n

IndyCar:<\/b><\/h3>\n

After a two-year stint in the DTM Series and a year-long hiatus, Katherine Legge’s career went back to the States.<\/span><\/p>\n

2012 she signed with Dragon Racing in the IndyCar Series, racing alongside teammate S\u00e9bastien Bourdais. The season was promising, but after Indianapolis, the team could only enter one car per race due to an engine change from Lotus to Chevrolet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the remainder of 2012, Dragon entered Bourdais at the road and street courses, and Legge at oval tracks. Legge finished 26th overall, competing in 10 of the 15 races, with her highest finish being ninth at the Auto Club Speedway in California.<\/span><\/p>\n

The following season she moved on to race in other series but returned for the Indy500. Ten years later, in 2023, she announced she would enter again with Rahal Letterman Lanigan. This time she qualified 30th<\/a> and set the record for the fastest qualifying effort by a woman in event history<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024<\/a>, at 43, Katherine competed in all seven oval IndyCar races, exclusively with Dale Coyne Racing. She secured her highest finish of the season, placing 15th in the second Milwaukee race.<\/span><\/p>\n
