As he prepares to join F1 next year, Bortoleto reveals the extent of his intense simulator work.<\/p>\n<h2>Bortoleto: Extra preparation could make a difference<\/h2>\n<p>A multitude of rookies (<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/19\/kimi-antonelli-i-want-to-beat-russell-next-year\/\" target=\"_self\">Kimi Antonelli<\/a>, Jack Doohan and Oliver Bearman) will join Bortoleto on the grid net season.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian will step into a Sauber team yet to score points in 2024, as they work on transition into Audi F1 in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>However, an update package in Las Vegas yielded some positive results for the Swiss outfit.<\/p>\n<p>After a solid qualifying, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/21\/zhou-guanyu-in-talks-with-several-f1-teams-for-2025-role\/\" target=\"_self\">Zhou Guanyu<\/a> was firmly in contention for points on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Although poor strategy ultimately cost Zhou a top-10 finish, Sauber have at least managed to be more competitive.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, Bortoleto faces a huge challenge next year &#8211; irrespective of how competitive his machinery is.<\/p>\n<p>He will drive alongside the immensely fast <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/19\/nico-hulkenberg-audi-serious-about-f1\/\" target=\"_self\">Nico Hulkenberg<\/a>, who will be a very strong benchmark to face in his rookie campaign.<\/p>\n<h4>Vigorous simulator preparation<\/h4>\n<p>Speaking on the F1 Nation Podcast, Bortoleto gave some insights into his preparations for 2025:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I do a lot of preparation in the simulator, especially when I&#8217;m home &#8211; I spend 7\/8 hours a day doing simulator.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"igog7ybMRcR_2_G7YoIt1g\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2182372786\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'igog7ybMRcR_2_G7YoIt1g',sig:'h6pNzcwWcAO7NI-IyM8u5LPbf_YJ-6PJD2yPx2cGuUo=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2182372786',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;And I don&#8217;t have anything else to do, that&#8217;s the truth, you know. <\/em><em>I just go gym and simulator, so that&#8217;s what I can do&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know if this makes a difference or not. But at the end of the day, if you do this every single day of your life, maybe on track it makes a difference.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;So when you see a racing situation and you have done it in a simulator hundreds of times at home, it&#8217;s automatic &#8211; you don&#8217;t even think about it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>A critical phase for Sauber\/Audi<\/h4>\n<p>Bortoleto&#8217;s comments are consistent with a prevailing theme amongst F1&#8217;s younger generation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/21\/norris-i-was-not-at-the-level-to-face-verstappen-in-early-2024\/\" target=\"_self\">Max Verstappen<\/a> is perhaps the driver most renowned for spending huge amounts of time in the simulator.<\/p>\n<p>Considering that Bortoleto is a part of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/09\/12\/fernando-alonso-i-will-be-driving-in-2026-and-beyond\/\" target=\"_self\">Fernando Alonso&#8217;s Management team<\/a>, it is unsurprising that his training regime is vigorous.<\/p>\n<p>Having signed a multi-year contract, Bortoleto will have some breathing space to adjust to F1 next year.<\/p>\n<p>However, regardless of a driver&#8217;s contractual situation, there is always pressure.<\/p>\n<p>As Audi build their long-term project, the 20-year-old will work to get up to speed as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After winning last year&#8217;s Formula 3 championship, Gabriel Bortoleto is on track to take the Formula 2 crown in his rookie campaign.
