Daniel Ricciardo, for example, would have been replaced far earlier in the season if Marko had the final say.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Australian held onto his seat until Singapore because of Horner&#8217;s insistence.<\/p>\n<h3>Liam Lawson vs Franco Colapinto<\/h3>\n<p>The two leading candidates to replace <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/12\/sergio-perez-sponsors-could-help-secure-2025-red-bull-seat\/\" target=\"_self\">Sergio Perez<\/a> are Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto.<\/p>\n<p>When Lawson&#8217;s return to the grid was announced, Red Bull made clear they saw him as a strong candidate to partner Max Verstappen.<\/p>\n<p>Team statements made it abundantly clear that the 22-year-old is being evaluated for a potential promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, it is understood that Helmut Marko still <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/06\/liam-lawson-receives-boost-in-red-bull-contract-hopes\/\" target=\"_self\">sees Lawson as Red Bull&#8217;s best option<\/a> for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/it.motorsport.com\/f1\/news\/f1-colapinto-diventa-un-caso-lo-vuole-red-bull-ma-spera-anche-alpine\/10671679\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it.motorsport.com<\/a>, the 81-year-old wants to have Lawson alongside Verstappen next year.<\/p>\n<p>Marko would then prefer to see Franco Colapinto alongside Yuki Tsunoda at VCARB.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"4ifbqnXTQbdKnnaAPH_RHg\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2181990699\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'4ifbqnXTQbdKnnaAPH_RHg',sig:'s4DocnvHp67QgY-2IKJnp-PTc09pg_9JEurbw-GmKxo=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2181990699',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In this scenario, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/10\/franco-colapinto-2025-seat-very-likely-reveal-his-management\/\" target=\"_self\">Red Bull would secure Colapinto&#8217;s services<\/a> at VCARB before making any immediate move to the main team.<\/p>\n<p>However, Christian Horner is said to have a different idea for how the team should proceed.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Bull team principal is said to rate Franco Colapinto extremely highly, and therefore willing to put him immediately in a Red Bull seat.<\/p>\n<p>This would see Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda spend another year in the second team &#8211; which would almost certainly frustrate them both.<\/p>\n<p>After all, there is a possibility that a driver outside of the team&#8217;s academy is promoted before they are.<\/p>\n<h3>Winners and losers<\/h3>\n<p>Ultimately, the primary consideration for the Milton Keynes squad is assembling the best line-up possible.<\/p>\n<p>Considering Colapinto&#8217;s impressive F1 debut, getting his signature is near the top of their priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the sheer volume of drivers contracted under Red Bull mean there will be winners and losers.<\/p>\n<p>At least one of Tsunoda, Lawson and Perez will end this season frustrated with the outcome.
