This means some venues won&#8217;t be on the calendar in consecutive seasons &#8211; instead featuring on the schedule every other year. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/04\/30\/f1-news-stefano-domenicali-considers-more-sprint-races\/\" target=\"_self\">Stefano Domenicali<\/a> has confirmed that Formula 1 is pursuing this direction.<\/p>\n<h2>Historic venues at risk of losing permanent calendar slots<\/h2>\n<p>Over the past few seasons, Liberty Media have overseen significant changes to the F1 calendar.<\/p>\n<p>New races at Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Las Vegas are all examples of Liberty&#8217;s efforts to capitalise on Formula 1&#8217;s rising popularity.<\/p>\n<p>These new circuits have contributed to this year&#8217;s 24-race calendar, which is the longest in F1 history. Because of this, concerns have been raised about the intensity of F1&#8217;s schedule.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this, there are growing concerns that historic European tracks could lose their places on the schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Tracks like Belgium, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/06\/11\/george-russell-mercedes-can-sustain-race-winning-pace\/\" target=\"_self\">Barcelona<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/05\/09\/f1-news-haas-will-continue-upgrade-push-in-imola\/\" target=\"_self\">Imola<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/28\/mercedes-without-answers-for-zandvoort-pace-loss\/\" target=\"_self\">Zandvoort<\/a> are on expiring contracts. Whilst some of these circuits could be completely replaced, others will be relegated to having semi-permanent status on the calendar.<\/p>\n<h3>Domenicali outlines potential changes<\/h3>\n<p>F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali explained the potential future of the calendar:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We have some news to share very, very soon,&#8221; <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/f1\/news\/domenicali-rotational-f1-races-in-europe-coming-very-very-soon\/10671409\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">motorsport.com<\/a> quotes him as saying.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;With regard to the possibility in the mid-term to have some rotational European Grand Prix and some other new options coming later.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"PplWpdB2TcJVrjAMv9EISA\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2182646215\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'PplWpdB2TcJVrjAMv9EISA',sig:'0RkEKG1bq736rtyGzrvrKyG_daBsNlEK3A_i3s6gRCA=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2182646215',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;This is something that, of course, we will clarify in the due course. <\/em><em>It is true that we have a large demand of new possible venues that want to come in.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;And our choice will always be balanced between the right economical benefits that we can have as a system, and also to leverage the growth on the market.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;That we can see potential that will be beneficial for us to grow even further our business.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Moving forward, the introduction of new circuits on the calendar should be expected.<\/p>\n<p>Argentina is among several countries vying to secure a space on F1&#8217;s calendar in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in 2024, it was also confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/03\/04\/f1-news-negotiations-over-turkey-calendar-return-underway\/\" target=\"_self\">Turkish GP organisers<\/a> are negotiating an F1 comeback.<\/p>\n<p>In response to this growing demand, more traditional circuits could miss out &#8211; either being completely removed or relegated to rotational venues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>F1 is inching towards a calendar where certain European circuits are rotated from year to year.
