Red Bull are pleased with his progress so far, with the team seeing Lawson as a realistic option to partner Max Verstappen next season.<\/p>\n<h2>Lawson continues to impress Red Bull decision-makers<\/h2>\n<p>Even before <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/10\/28\/lawson-apologises-for-showing-perez-middle-finger-at-mexico-gp\/\" target=\"_self\">Lawson<\/a> made his F1 comeback in COTA, Red Bull spoke about his abilities in glowing terms.<\/p>\n<p>Christian Horner and Helmut Marko were transparent about their hopes that the Kiwi could become a legitimate contender for promotion in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/10\/23\/liam-lawson-reveals-red-bull-targets-that-was-the-expectation\/\" target=\"_self\">Red Bull set Lawson the target of matching Yuki Tsunoda<\/a> when they handed him a VCARB seat last month.<\/p>\n<p>Considering Lawson&#8217;s relatively limited experience, the reigning Champions would consider his F1 comeback a success if he can match his teammate.<\/p>\n<p>At least so far, they seem satisfied with his performances.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last few Grand Prix, Red Bull have been far more eager to praise the 22-year-old than his Japanese teammate &#8211; even when Tsunoda performs well.<\/p>\n<h3>Perez struggles create an opportunity at Red Bull<\/h3>\n<p>Last weekend&#8217;s Brazilian GP was a reminder of the perfect conditions that could facilitate a Liam Lawson promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/10\/30\/f1-news-red-bull-can-only-do-so-much-to-keep-perez\/\" target=\"_self\">Sergio Perez<\/a> struggle, but Christian Horner was eager to praise Lawson&#8217;s efforts before speaking about Tsunoda &#8211; despite the #22 car fighting for a top 3 spot throughout Sunday&#8217;s action.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Bull team principal reflected on the efforts of his drivers at Interlagos:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It was a difficult race for Checo, spinning at the beginning of the race dropped him down,&#8221; <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/2024\/11\/04\/christian-horner-red-bull-must-look-at-the-facts-with-sergio-perezs-f1-position\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he told the media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"Fz-fPQt0T9NWpbmmw5V7TQ\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2182688194\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'Fz-fPQt0T9NWpbmmw5V7TQ',sig:'RO-S0wcqZJrPK0IoutTT-zCxRNloIJBDwoiANh3cudc=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2182688194',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Today was an opportunity in the constructors to take a big chunk out of Ferrari and McLaren.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Unfortunately we&#8217;ve not been able to capitalise on that, so that&#8217;s obviously frustrating.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;But we&#8217;ll go away and have a look at it, and come back fighting hard in Vegas&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Sergio Perez is our current driver.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Liam Lawson did a super job today, and Yuki [Tsunoda]. Liam particularly, considering his experience.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To be clear, Lawson is not the only driver under consideration.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/03\/franco-colapinto-receives-growing-interest-from-red-bull\/\" target=\"_self\">Franco Colapinto<\/a>, despite his multi-year contract with Williams, is still highly regarded at Red Bull. Christian Horner has spoken openly about probing the Argentine&#8217;s availability in 2025 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, it would be premature to make any predictions about Red Bull&#8217;s 2025 line-up. Even their second team, VCARB, could see someone like <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/11\/01\/f1-news-red-bull-to-evaluate-isack-hadjar-ahead-of-2025\/\" target=\"_self\">Isack Hadjar<\/a> make a surprise debut.<\/p>\n<p>Still, as Red Bull continue to evaluate their options, Lawson remains a leading contender.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite being thrown into the deep end mid-season, Liam Lawson is putting together a series of strong performances for VCARB.
