Despite his best efforts, the 34-year-old is unable to match the efforts of teammate Max Verstappen. However, Perez believes the worst is now behind him.<\/p>\n<h2>Perez optimistic he can finish the seasons strong<\/h2>\n<p>Last weekend&#8217;s US GP was confirmation of well-established truths at the Red Bull camp.<\/p>\n<p>Max Verstappen executed two gutsy driver in the Sprint and Grand Prix to extend his Championship. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/10\/23\/liam-lawson-reveals-red-bull-targets-that-was-the-expectation\/\" target=\"_self\">Liam Lawson<\/a>, meanwhile, delivered a statement result in his comeback &#8211; finishing P9 for VCARB.<\/p>\n<p>The other recurring theme that was confirmed in COTA, regrettably for Perez, was the discrepancy between Red Bull&#8217;s drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Sergio Perez was nowhere near Verstappen throughout the weekend. Perhaps of even greater concern, he again failed to take points away from the other top teams.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"5y4Ooq9YRjhhUq3sVyozfQ\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2180555650\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'5y4Ooq9YRjhhUq3sVyozfQ',sig:'xwIk5VUXzZa5my2WKie8d05se90_LAf9nXpp6Ynz5sI=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2180555650',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of his home race, Perez argued that difficulties with the RB20 have been costly.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;When you have a very difficult car to drive, you\u2019re making mistakes one after the other,&#8221; <\/em>he told f1.com.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;And you try to compensate one way or another and then you are just thinking constantly on how you can maximise your car.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Once you go into that cycle as a racing driver, it\u2019s the worst you can have.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;People forget your career very quickly and what you\u2019ve done \u2013 and even yourself, you start doubting yourself a lot.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It did happen to me. But I worked really hard. The results have been very difficult.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It has been a very difficult period for myself personally and for the team. But now it seems that we are on top of it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This weekend&#8217;s Mexican GP represents one of five opportunities for Perez to prove something has changed on his side of the Red Bull garage.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/10\/22\/f1-news-ferrari-optimistic-about-sustaining-title-challenge-in-2025\/\" target=\"_self\">Ferrari<\/a> gain momentum and join the battle for the constructors&#8217; title, the need for Perez to deliver only increases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The last two seasons have been extremely difficult for Sergio Perez.
