However, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/09\/01\/norris-first-lap-battle-with-piastri-was-too-close-for-comfort\/\" target=\"_self\">Norris<\/a> and Piastri&#8217;s messy Italian GP does not detract from the ever-growing problems at Red Bull. The RB20 is losing ground to its immediate rivals, with Christian Horner&#8217;s team unable to rectify persistent handling issues.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Red Bull in desperate need of upgrades<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>Helmut Marko reveals struggles<\/h4>\n<p>Considering the circumstances, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/30\/red-bull-fear-verstappen-70-point-lead-over-norris-is-not-enough\/\" target=\"_self\">Max Verstappen<\/a> can be relatively satisfied with his individual performance in Monza.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutchman managed to gain a position to finish the race in P6, only losing eight points in the Championship to Lando Norris &#8211; who fell from first to third.<\/p>\n<p>However, Verstappen cannot continue relying on blunders from McLaren to keep his Championship lead. Red Bull needs to produce upgrades, and quickly, to give the 3-time World Champion the necessary machinery to fight for wins.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/28\/christian-horner-reveals-mclaren-difference-maker\/\" target=\"_self\">Christian Horner&#8217;s team<\/a> is under pressure in this sense, given that their development has stagnated in 2024. The team needs to unlock more pace and make the RB20 more drivable.<\/p>\n<p>Helmut Marko told Sky Germany about the car&#8217;s most problematic characteristics:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Max cannot use his ability to drive incredibly on the limit because the car does not allow it, as it reacts too unpredictably.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;There are so many factors that cause us problems. At some point, with the upgrades, we lost the balance &#8211; and with the balance, we also lost the ability to move the car quickly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;What was decided yesterday is that we will go back until we find the point where we took a wrong turn. We will see how quickly that goes.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We are starting with Baku and are confident.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"h4w1QhvYT8pOcddg92ZQ0w\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2169746667\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'h4w1QhvYT8pOcddg92ZQ0w',sig:'MohEPYsNc6hbhXBJQ7mzUrtVmzphtUQS1EW8ZlcPRG8=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2169746667',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<h4>Red Bull working on solutions in the factory<\/h4>\n<p>From a pragmatic standpoint, Red Bull will almost certainly shift their focus to winning the drivers&#8217; Championship. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/27\/andrea-stella-wants-mclaren-to-dominate-the-rest-of-2024\/\" target=\"_self\">McLaren<\/a> are only 8 points behind in the team&#8217;s standings, a deficit that will almost certainly be overturned by the next round.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the RB20 makes some improvement, there is little evidence to suggest that Perez could score enough points to stop Andrea Stella&#8217;s team from taking the crown.<\/p>\n<p>It is not unrealistic for Ferrari to overtake Red Bull either, with the Italian outfit only 30 points behind the Austrian team. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/30\/f1-news-ferrari-bring-massive-upgrade-package-to-monza\/\" target=\"_self\">Upgrades to the SF-24 in Monza<\/a> delivered a big step forward, putting the Scuderia&#8217;s development back on track after their mid-season wobble.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, the Austrian team&#8217;s best chance is to try and defend Max Verstappen&#8217;s driver&#8217;s title. After the next two races (Azerbaijan and Singapore) there is a one-month gap to the American GP.<\/p>\n<p>This gives the factory in Milton Keynes a two-month spell to introduce upgrades and respond to McLaren&#8217;s resurgence. The question is whether they are capable of capitalising on their point advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Max Verstappen pointed out the RB20&#8217;s biggest limitations several months ago.
