After claiming victory in Zandvoort, Lando Norris used the phrase &#8216;simply lovely&#8217; on team radio &#8211; an expression often used by the Dutchman. Whilst only a small detail in the grand scheme of things, Ricciardo predicts Verstappen will deliver a response on the track.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ricciardo gives his verdict on Verstappen and Norris<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>During his time at Red Bull and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/27\/andrea-stella-wants-mclaren-to-dominate-the-rest-of-2024\/\" target=\"_self\">McLaren<\/a>, Daniel Ricciardo was teammates with F1&#8217;s current Championship leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian is still the last driver to truly challenge Verstappen in the same machinery.<\/p>\n<p>Red Bull&#8217;s attempts to replace Ricciardo with a driver of similar calibre have been generally unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of the Italian GP, the 8-time winner was asked about the title title:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I&#8217;ve had the pleasure of being teammates with both of them [Norris and Verstappen].\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;They&#8217;re both supremely talented. So, let&#8217;s see how he responds this weekend.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Of course, there are important battles unfolding throughout the field.<\/p>\n<p>VCARB continue their fight with Haas for 6th place in the standings &#8211; in a rivalry set to continue until the season finale in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>Ricciardo also has concerns beyond the Constructors Championship. The 35-year-old is still trying to convince Red Bull that he is deserving of a promotion and capable of driving alongside Verstappen.<\/p>\n<p>In many ways, the degree to which <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/29\/mclaren-having-a-number-1-driver-is-not-healthy\/\" target=\"_self\">McLaren<\/a> and Norris can progress will impact Red Bull&#8217;s decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The defending champions are still evaluating whether to keep Sergio Perez for the long term, even if <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/28\/christian-horner-reveals-mclaren-difference-maker\/\" target=\"_self\">Christian Horner<\/a> and Helmut Marko continue to insist they are committed to the Mexican driver.<\/p>\n<p>The unpredictable <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/29\/jos-verstappen-warns-the-good-people-are-leaving-red-bull\/\" target=\"_self\">internal dynamics at Red Bull<\/a> could give Ricciardo and teammate Tsunoda opportunities to capitalise on.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel Ricciardo expects Max Verstappen to make a statement at this weekend&#8217;s Italian GP.
