Jos, the father of Max, has repeatedly criticised Horner&#8217;s leadership of the team. After a disappointing Dutch GP, the 52-year-old has renewed his attacks on the direction at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/28\/why-red-bull-have-no-quick-solutions-for-their-struggles\/\" target=\"_self\">Red Bull<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Jos Verstappen says Red Bull cannot &#8220;sugarcoat&#8221; situation<\/h2>\n<h4>Verstappen sounds the alarm<\/h4>\n<p>Even before Norris took the chequered flag in Zandvoort last week, Red Bull knew the RB20&#8217;s advantage was a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<p>McLaren have clearly been the fastest team since their Miami GP updates.<\/p>\n<p>Over recent months, Mercedes &#8211; rather than <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/28\/why-red-bull-have-no-quick-solutions-for-their-struggles\/\" target=\"_self\">Red Bull<\/a> &#8211; have emerged with the package most capable of competing with the papaya squad.<\/p>\n<p>In this sense, Red Bull did not learn anything especially new at the Dutch GP.<\/p>\n<p>With that said, this does not detract from the genuine concerns about their development.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"IbTz5REeRw1g8VxYz14vuQ\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2159541192\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'IbTz5REeRw1g8VxYz14vuQ',sig:'Vq1fb6M-k2Cxb4rQLHUQiFppGCWyrAzLHIVlUNGugao=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2159541192',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to Jos Verstappen, the situation at Milton Keynes is desperate. He calls on Red Bull&#8217;s senior personnel to act:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The team has taken the wrong turn several times,&#8221; he told <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.bild.de\/sport\/mehr-sport\/formel-1-verstappen-vater-wuetet-gegen-red-bull-heftige-abrechnung-mit-team-66cb7c960f2ad15e276184f1\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BILD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Internally, you should hold up a mirror and not always sugarcoat everything.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It&#8217;s time &#8211; if it&#8217;s not already too late &#8211; to question yourself. The good people are leaving the team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m very unhappy with what&#8217;s happening<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;There is no way to sugarcoat it any more &#8211; the situation is serious. Max will not be happy with a car like this.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Now it is up to [Christian] Horner to get the team back on track.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Internal tensions persist at Red Bull<\/h4>\n<p>Unlike at the start of the year, when off-track controversy distracted from Red Bull&#8217;s dominance, the RB20 is now front and centre of discussions.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned previously on LWOS, the Austrian squad are in danger of falling even further behind.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"pCAKEH0ZTbBZzpFCIEPFTw\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2168177948\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'pCAKEH0ZTbBZzpFCIEPFTw',sig:'Uari-tgy64PArGqizjaNLcfIAkng-i2onbYZIzE3LCQ=',w:'594px',h:'394px',items:'2168177948',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>McLaren are already a few steps ahead of Red Bull, whilst <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/27\/ferrari-upgrades-define-season\/\" target=\"_self\">Ferrari<\/a> have a large update package in the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/28\/mercedes-without-answers-for-zandvoort-pace-loss\/\" target=\"_self\">Mercedes<\/a> are also a clear threat, with the W15 consistently matching or even outperforming the RB20 in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>On a fundamental level, Christian Horner&#8217;s team is believed to be approaching a ceiling in development.<\/p>\n<p>Considering that resources will be diverted to the 2026 regulations at the beginning of 2025, time is of the essence for Red Bull to reverse their trajectory.<\/p>\n<p>If they fail to add performance in the coming weeks, next year&#8217;s car could realistically inherit some of this year&#8217;s limitations.<\/p>\n<p>While an exit from the team before 2026 is off the cards for <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/25\/verstappen-rb20-suffers-from-oversteer-and-understeer\/\" target=\"_self\">Max Verstappen<\/a>, the situation at Red Bull is certainly worrying.<\/p>\n<p>Both on the track and away from it, there are issues to resolve.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since Red Bull&#8217;s internal power struggle was exposed in early 2024, the relationship between Jos Verstappen and Christian Horner has been tense.
