Team principal <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/26\/james-vowles-sainz-contract-talks-shockingly-close-to-dating\/\" target=\"_self\">James Vowles<\/a> has reportedly run out of patience with the 23-year-old, preferring to put someone else in the car mid-season. As it stands, a new name is set to join the Grove-based team.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Williams have chosen to replace Logan Sargeant mid-season<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>One mistake too many<\/h4>\n<p>Even before Sargeant crashed out in Zandvoort FP3, damaging his newly upgraded FW46, he was on thin ice.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Williams confirmed in the summer that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/26\/carlos-sainz-warns-mclaren-are-the-only-certainty-at-the-front\/\" target=\"_self\">Carlos Sainz<\/a> would replace him in 2025. Although a Williams stint has been ruled out for Antonelli, there are other drivers who can fill in for Williams.<\/p>\n<p>As first evidenced at the Australian GP, when Logan Sargeant was withdrawn after Alex Albon&#8217;s crash, the British team&#8217;s belief in the American has always been limited.<\/p>\n<p>With that said, their trust in his abilities has clearly deteriorated since then.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dutch journalist Erik van Haren, the call has officially been made to replace the 23-year-old.<\/p>\n<h4>Franco Colapinto to replace Logan Sargeant<\/h4>\n<p>Several drivers have been mentioned as candidates to race for Williams in the remaining nine rounds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/27\/how-red-bull-could-cost-lawson-a-williams-seat\/\" target=\"_self\">Liam Lawson<\/a> was among them, with James Vowles showing an interest in his services. However, Red Bull were only <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/26\/liam-lawson-this-obstacle-could-prevent-a-williams-move\/\" target=\"_self\">willing to send Lawson on loan under<\/a> certain conditions.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"EKN9h3fQQ41q6X3v0SS-iA\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2100572589\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'EKN9h3fQQ41q6X3v0SS-iA',sig:'nho-BJbIf-itx4uzdJE8gQBOatjIoVwPhhReWF9WbUc=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2100572589',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<p>These stipulations, which almost certainly included a clause allowing Red Bull to recall Lawson at any time, prevented negotiations from advancing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/27\/f1-news-mick-schumacher-now-the-favourite-for-williams-deal\/\" target=\"_self\">Mick Schumacher<\/a> was the other driver previously seen as a front-runner to race for the Grove-based team.<\/p>\n<p>Toto Wolff, who first tried convincing Williams to sign Schumacher last year, has again voiced his support for the German driver.<\/p>\n<p>As a Mercedes reserve driver who is regularly present in the paddock, Schumacher is an obvious and convenient choice.<\/p>\n<p>However, it appears that James Vowles is not convinced by the 25-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the most recent information, Franco Colapinto could be the one to replace Sargeant at Williams.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old is currently a Williams junior driver, sitting 6th in the Formula 2 standings in his rookie season.<\/p>\n<p>Amidst the focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/08\/23\/alonso-confirms-involvement-in-bortoleto-f1-talks\/\" target=\"_self\">Gabriel Bortoleto<\/a> and Kimi Antonelli, Colapinto is quietly putting together a strong campaign.<\/p>\n<p>In an unexpected turn of events, it could be Franco Colapinto who drives alongside Alex Albon for the remainder of 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After days of intense speculation, it is understood that Williams have decided to replace Logan Sargeant.
