When this was an unsuccessful year, Perez moved to Force India where he has remained since. Having spent over three years driving for the team, he is now being linked to a top team once again, this time Ferrari, as the Italian manufacturer decide on Kimi Raikkonen’s fate at the team for 2018 after a so far, average 2017 performance.

Perez is hoping to have a new contract sorted for 2018 by the Belgian Grand Prix.

“I think the team has been moving forwards every year. Although last year we [Force India] achieved the same position which we have now which is fourth, I think we have consolidated that fourth place,” Perez said. “I think the team is moving forwards; there is a lot more interest in terms of sponsorship into the team, more investment but it’s not easy to make the next step with the big boys, with the big teams, it’s not easy. In terms of my future, I just hope that once I come back to the next race, after the summer break, I can have a new contract.”

When asked if he was talking about a new contract with Force India, Perez answered: “That would be good you know, but you never know what will happen,” suggesting that a switch to another team for 2018 could be on the cards.
Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Sergio Perez is looking to confirm where his Formula 1 future lies by the Belgian Grand Prix, hoping to have a contract signed for next season after the 2017 summer break.
