{"id":1883,"date":"2017-07-24T08:41:25","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T12:41:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/?p=1883"},"modified":"2017-07-24T08:41:25","modified_gmt":"2017-07-24T12:41:25","slug":"1883","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2017\/07\/24\/1883\/","title":{"rendered":"McLaren-Honda partnership to continue in 2018 according to Masashi Yamamoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Honda<\/strong> has said that it is staying in <strong>Formula 1<\/strong> for 2018 and will still be in partnership with <strong>McLaren<\/strong> next season according to\u00a0<strong>Masashi Yamamoto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>McLaren-Honda partnership to continue in 2018 according to Masashi Yamamoto<\/h2>\n<p>This follows a lot of speculation regarding the engine supplier&#8217;s future in the sport, with a divorce between McLaren and Honda reportedly being on the cards because of the uncompetitive nature of the power units that the Japanese car giant has supplied McLaren with since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>There have also been rumours regarding Honda&#8217;s engine deal with<strong> Sauber<\/strong> for 2018, and that the deal may have fallen through, leading to suggestions that Honda could be out of F1 entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Masashi Yamamoto denied this however when speaking to Sportiva:\u00a0&#8220;I am always talking with president <strong>Takahiro Hachigo<\/strong> and the board members, and there is no intention to withdraw from formula one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yamamoto didn&#8217;t deny that talks are occurring between McLaren and Honda:\u00a0&#8220;There is a contract between us and the premise of the talks with them is to continue,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We exclude the possibility that McLaren will even temporarily use the power unit of another manufacturer.
