Suarez, who qualified twenty-third, beat <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2023\/11\/07\/nascar-cup-series-ryan-blaney-wins-2023-nascar-cup-series-championship\/\" target=\"_self\">Ryan Blaney<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2023\/06\/07\/nascar-cup-series-the-kyle-busch-show-returns-at-gateway\/\" target=\"_self\">Kyle Busch<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>by .003 seconds, in a finish only rivaled by the 2011 Talladega spring race where\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2024\/02\/15\/reddick-and-bell-win-daytona-duels-for-toyota-johnson-and-grala-race-into-daytona-500\/\" target=\"_self\">Jimmie Johnson<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>won by .002 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>The Mexican-born driver and Xfinity Series Champion has bounced around with many upper-level teams. He had his breakout season in 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2022\/06\/12\/daniel-suarez-chris-buescher-sonoma-first-victory\/\" target=\"_self\">beating <strong>Chris Buescher <\/strong>at Sonoma for his first win.<\/a> Suarez has been under immense pressure after his winless 2023 season. The stack-up caused <strong>Austin Dillon\u00a0<\/strong>to spin, wrecking sixteen cars, including eventual race winner Suarez. Many had minor damage, but\u00a0<strong>Christopher Bell\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Noah\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Gragson<\/strong> had terminal damage. Repairs were made but it would not make a difference.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Green flag &#8230; and a big crash on Lap 2 at Atlanta! \ud83d\ude33 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SmNWR36kej\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/SmNWR36kej<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; FOX: NASCAR (@NASCARONFOX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NASCARONFOX\/status\/1761850007957688486?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">February 25, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Cautions breed cautions and twenty-five percent of the race was run under the yellow flag. The average green flag run was only 17.7 laps. A red flag was shown on lap 241 for a wreck between the #11 and #14 cars. This set up a fifteen-lap run that was interrupted by another wreck between <strong>Josh Berry<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Chase Elliott<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Carson Hocevar<\/strong>. The last green flag run was five laps with Blaney and Suarez dueling for the lead of the race.<\/p>\n<h3>How did Suarez win this race?<\/h3>\n<p>Looking at the first stage results, you would be astonished to see that Suarez won the race. He was involved on the lap two caution, with damage to the hood. The Trackhouse pit crew repaired the car, and he would finish fourth in the second stage. The #99 would avoid the wrecks while staying in a position to capitalize and win the race. When the last wreck happened on the backstretch, Suarez would beat Blaney to the scoring loop to get the lead and control the restart.<\/p>\n<p>The blue-oval power of Blaney would be too much for Suarez, as Blaney would regain the lead. Blaney would lead the field to the white flag with big runs from both Suarez and Busch forming. Not being able to block both, Busch would have the run and make the race for the win three wide.
