The double-header NYC E-Prix takes center stage with the top four drivers separated by just 15 points in the Championship battle.<\/h3>\n

A season defined by double-headers now heads in a trio of packed weekends to close out Season 8. Six double-round weekends make up a majority of this year’s calendar – 12 of 16 races. First, we had Diriyah where it looked like Mercedes-powered cars might cruise to another Championship. Then came Mitch Evans winning both rounds in Rome vaulting him into the title race. And most recently in Berlin, Edoardo Mortara took two poles and one victory. Those moments give us three of the four remaining protagonists. The goal with the NYC E-Prix double-header should be to stay in contention.<\/p>\n

To date, there have been eight NYC E-Prix, with six different winners. Sam Bird won both races in the circuit’s debut season in 2017 and was on the top step of the podium in the second round last year. After a difficult Season 8, he will be desperate to recapture that magic and help pull Jaguar back into the Team Championship race. When the Season 9 provisional schedule<\/a> was released recently, NYC was notable absent. Formula E states they are still working on confirming the US race next season. June 24th looks the most likely candidate, but the double-header in New York appears to be a thing of the past following this weekend.<\/p>\n

The Circuit \u2013 NYC E-Prix:<\/h3>\n

The 1.44-mile (2.32-km) track remains unchanged and is overlooked by the iconic New York skyline. The drivers will be faced with 14 turns, multiple long straights, tight corners, and several overtaking zones. Attack Mode activation will once again take place on the far side of Turn 10, which in the hairpin turn, will surely cost a position or two. However, with that increased power they will be looking to retake positions along the sweeping Turn 13\/14, down the start\/finish line straight, and into Turn 1.<\/p>\n

Drivers\u2019 Championship<\/span><\/h4>\n

The top four further solidified their place at the top of the order last time out. Fifth place Robin Frijns is now 43 points behind 4th and 58 off the leader. Mortara’s victory sees him take the top spot with the previous Championship leader, Stoffel Vandoorne, slipping to third following qualifying issues in Marrakesh.<\/p>\n

    Teams\u2019 Championship<\/span><\/h4>\n

    Thanks to Edoardo Mortara’s win in Marrakesh, ROKiT Venturi leaped ahead of both DS Techeetah and Mercedes-EQ. The top three are separated by only 7 (!) points, which is incredible this deep into the season. Mitch Evans has single-handed kept Jaguar within striking distance, but could really use a boost from teammate Sam Bird this weekend who has a great history at the NYC E-Prix.<\/p>\n
