One year after Helio Castronoves’ record-tying fourth Indy 500 victory, IndyCar returns to the oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race.<\/h2>\n

After a long two weeks of testing, practice and qualifying, the race known as “The Greatest Spectacle In Racing” is finally upon us.<\/p>\n

For the 106th time, 33 drivers will take on the challenge of becoming the first to cross the line after 200 laps around the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a quest for racing greatness. Last weekend, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon<\/strong> took pole with a four-lap average of just over 234 mph, the fastest in the history of the race. Starting alongside him in Row 1 is teammate and reigning series champion Alex Palou<\/strong>, along with Rinus Veekay<\/strong>, which makes back-to-back front row appearances for Ed Carpenter Racing.<\/p>\n

Last year’s winner, Helio Castroneves<\/strong>, showed a poor qualifying performance and will start from all the way back in row nine along with Colton Herta<\/strong> and Scott McLaughlin<\/strong>. Two 500 rookies made it into the Fast-12, those being Jimmie Johnson<\/strong> and Romain Grosjean<\/strong>. Johnson, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, will roll off from the outside of the fourth row. Grosjean, competing in just his second oval race in his career, will start from ninth.<\/p>\n
