Meanwhile, the truck drove clockwise around the track and shot a stream of water out toward the wall. On the backstretch, it dropped down a lane and repeated the process.<\/p>\n<p>Some laps, it shot out the left side. Too little, and you&#8217;re sending a giant cloud of dust that drains visibility.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It\u2019s not as clear as this picture would seem. There\u2019s so much dust in the air.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NASCAR?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#NASCAR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BristolDirtNats?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#BristolDirtNats<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ItsBristolBaby?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#ItsBristolBaby<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ItsDirtBaby?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#ItsDirtBaby<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pCCoLyL8KE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/pCCoLyL8KE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Tucker White (@TuckerWhite94) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TuckerWhite94\/status\/1373463104114327558?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 21, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This came into play, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2021\/03\/29\/white-zone-a-day-on-bristol-dirt\/\" target=\"_self\">last year<\/a>, during the Food City Dirt Race, when <a href=\"https:\/\/racing.ap.org\/article\/logano-takes-checkered-flag-haze-bristol-dirt\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">so much dust hung<\/a> in the air that NASCAR went to single file restarts for the remainder of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Though that&#8217;s not entirely uncommon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you look at dirt racing in general,&#8221; NASCAR executive Steve O&#8217;Donnell said, &#8220;I know some of our fans and the NASCAR industry isn\u2019t used to seeing what happened during the race with the dust buildup. It\u2019s a very common practice, if you experience that situation, to try and go single file to alleviate some of the dust and some of the visibility issues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Saturday&#8217;s super late model A-main had a dust cloud form over the track.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, dirt tends to form to the contours of the track. This gives dirt tracks &#8220;character.&#8221; Last season, this gave us holes and dips in the track.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Something to watch for next week might be these holes and dips in Turns 3 and 4.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NASCAR?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#NASCAR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BristolDirtNats?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#BristolDirtNats<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ItsBristolBaby?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#ItsBristolBaby<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ItsDirtBaby?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#ItsDirtBaby<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/q2tupL7uSl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/q2tupL7uSl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Tucker White (@TuckerWhite94) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TuckerWhite94\/status\/1373505195443953666?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 21, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Last year, it had a little more character and it was a little rougher, considering the speeds we&#8217;re carrying,&#8221; super late model driver Chris Ferguson said.<\/p>\n<p>This season, however, drivers told a different tale.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So the track is really smooth and this evening,&#8221; open modified driver Clay Harris said. &#8220;So this whole week, the track&#8217;s been great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pretty much every driver said it was some variation of smooth and well moistened.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This thing was smooth as glass,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s definitely a little bit different.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some dimples (lack of a better word) formed into the surface, but nothing that drivers noted as having a significant impact on the racing.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, a smooth as glass surface is great to race on, but it doesn&#8217;t necessarily translate to the best racing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whenever the race track&#8217;s got a little bit of chop to it, it creates a little bit of character,&#8221; super late model driver Dale McDowell said. &#8220;So the racing is a little bit more exciting, so to speak. Photo: Chris Graythen\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NASCAR dirt racing remains a polarizing subject. Especially when it comes to running a dirt race at Bristol. Which doesn&#8217;t sit well with a certain NASCAR writer for The Athletic.<\/p>\n<p>Now <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/motorsports\/2020\/09\/30\/white-zone-nascar-schedule\/\" target=\"_self\">I also thought at the time of its announcement<\/a> that it was a dumb idea, and go back-and-forth on it.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, it&#8217;s happening and nothing indicates Bristol&#8217;s reversing course on it, soon. Especially when <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/deffd836e9ff44fca9d1f66682010195\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attendance for the spring race<\/a> dropped to roughly 30,000 in 2019. At a track that was once the toughest at which to get tickets.
