Formula E – Preview of the 2018 Paris E-Prix

Round eight of the ABB Formula E championship will be held in Paris, France this weekend (April 28,2018). The 2018 Paris E-Prix will bring electric racing to the City of Light for the third year in a row. Each race featured some extraordinary racing and some great action, hopefully we will see more of the same in 2018. Since the FIA is based in Paris, ABB Formula E considers this a second home race.

Preview of the Paris E-Prix

The 2018 Paris E-Prix will take place on the Circuit Des Invalides. A 1.9 km circuit in the heart of Paris features 14 turns with plenty of overtaking opportunities. Renault E.Dams driver Sebastien Buemi is the only winner at this circuit and he will be looking to make it a third win this weekend. The Swiss driver also owns the qualifying record 1:02.171 and defending season three champion Lucas Di Grassi holds the lap record 1:01.359.

Local Heroes

All eyes will be on some of the French drivers in this year’s 2018 Paris E-Prix. ABB Formula E Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne of Techeetah maintains his narrow lead so far. While taking each race one by one, he can’t be distracted by a potential championship just yet. The French driver holds a narrow eighteen- point lead over DS Virgin Racing Sam Bird and will be looking to put on a great show for his home fans.

Renault E.Dams will be looking to have a great showing in Paris this time around. The French outfit sits sixth in the championship as a whole and will want to claw their way up. With Buemi’s early success at this circuit, they desperately need the points to move up the order. French Renault E. Dams driver Nico Prost will also want to score points in front of his home crowd in Paris. The Frenchman sits eighteenth with only seven points so far, so he will need a great drive.

Other Drivers to Watch

Sam Bird of DS Virgin Racing will be looking for another strong showing in Paris. After inheriting the lead and holding onto the win in Rome, he will look for a similar result in Paris. The British driver is only eighteen points off ABB Formula E championship leader Vergne, and will look to close that gap.

Mahindra Racing driver Felix Rosenqvist will look for a strong weekend at the 2018 Paris E-Prix. He put in great times to secure pole in Rome, but his car couldn’t hold up to give him the win. Rosenqvist will be looking to score big points in Paris and keep his title hopes alive near the end of the season.

In addition, Panasonic Jaguar Racing Mitch Evans will look to redeem himself after dropping to P9 in the Rome E-Prix. The Kiwi driver was battling for podium positions before a lack of usable energy led him to plummet down the order last time out. He will certainly be eyeing another podium for the 2018 Paris E-Prix.
