Hosts Price Atkinson and Steve Carney open the season with a full 2025 preview of the service academies and a special interview with new Navy Athletic Director Michael Kelly.

Navy Looks Ready To Defend Its Crown

The Midshipmen enter 2025 as the reigning Commander-in-Chief Trophy winners after a 10–3 campaign capped by a bowl victory over Oklahoma. With quarterback Blake Horvath leading the charge and standout defender Landon Robinson anchoring the defense, Navy has the experience and talent to contend again. The schedule is no cakewalk, but the early stretch gives them a chance to build momentum before a November gauntlet that includes Notre Dame, Memphis, and Army.

Welcoming Michael Kelly To Annapolis

One of the highlights of the season premiere was Steve Carney’s interview with new Navy Athletic Director Michael Kelly. Kelly shared how meaningful it is to return to Annapolis, where his father graduated in 1967, and to lead an athletic program so deeply tied to the nation’s military. He also emphasized that Navy’s student-athletes enjoy a unique culture without the distractions of NIL and the transfer portal, allowing coaches to focus on true player development. Finally, Kelly expressed his admiration for head coach Brian Newberry’s leadership, noting how the program’s stability and zero staff departures this offseason reflect the strong foundation being built in Annapolis.

This season also marks a new era at Navy, as Kelly’s leadership and connection to the academy add even more intrigue to an already exciting season ahead.

Army Seeks To Reload After Historic Run

Army enjoyed a stellar 2024 season, going 12–2 and winning the AAC title. This year, however, brings change with quarterback Dewayne Coleman taking over for the departed Bryson Daily. The Black Knights face a front-loaded schedule, including a trip to Kansas State, but the second half looks more manageable. If Coleman finds his footing quickly, Jeff Monken’s team could once again challenge for the conference crown.

Air Force Looks For A Bounce Back Year

Air Force stumbled to a 5–7 record in 2024 but closed with a four-game win streak. Head coach Troy Calhoun’s Falcons must reestablish their trademark rushing attack to return to bowl contention. The early slate against Bucknell, Utah State, and Boise State will provide quick answers about their competitiveness. Quarterback play remains the big question mark, but the Falcons have enough talent to make noise in the Mountain West.

Click Below To Listen To The 2025 Preview On Yards And Stripes!

Listen to “Yards And Stripes: 2025 Service Academy Preview And Welcoming Michael Kelly” on Spreaker.

The 2025 college football season has officially kicked off, and Yards and Stripes is back for another year of covering Army, Navy, and Air Force football.
