For many years, CBS Sports<\/a> NFL analyst Tony Romo<\/a> has been considered one of the best color commentators in sports media. His long career with the Dallas Cowboys<\/a>, which included four Pro Bowl nods, gives him insights into the game and NFL as a whole that not many can offer to viewers.<\/p>\n

Of course, this a period of the year in which the NFL is not engaged in many activities. While some teams have started training camp for rookies, most others do not start coming back until next week. During the month of July, teams hope that their players continue to work out and stay out of trouble.<\/p>\n

Apparently, the sports media networks should be hoping the same.<\/p>\n

According to a report by\u00a0WISN\u00a0<\/em><\/a>12\u00a0<\/em>in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Romo was arrested on Thursday night on the suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.<\/p>\n

Per the report:<\/p>\n

“Romo was stopped Thursday around 5:30 p.m. while traveling southbound on Interstate 43 just south of the Marquette Interchange and ‘performed poorly’ on standard field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody for OWI book and released. Under a field in the arrest report that asks the deputy to assess the ‘Arresting Demeanor,’ it indicates Romo was ‘cooperative.’<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The area in which Romo was driving is right in the midst of downtown Milwaukee, with 5:30 p.m. being a time where that stretch of I-43 sees some of its highest traffic volume every day.<\/p>\n

In Wisconsin, which is Romo’s home state (he grew up in Burlington), a first arrest for OWI is not considered a criminal offense. Instead, it is a civil offense that often results in a citation to pay a $150-$300 fine. Per\u00a0WISN<\/em>, the arrest report did not mention a breathalyzer or blood alcohol level.<\/p>\n

Romo was given a court date of September 21, but is not required to attend. CBS had no comment on the arrest.<\/p>\n

In short, then, very little, if anything will happen to Romo after his arrest on Thursday. He was already released and does not even have to appear in court if he does not want to. At the very worst, he will be given a citation by a judge and he will pay a fine.<\/p>\n
