Per the report, the deal “would keep him at the network several years into the 2030s.”

Financial terms were not disclosed, and apparently an ESPN representative declined to comment on the story. That being said, it is common knowledge that the senior NFL insider makes $9 million a year on his current deal. One would assume that he will be getting a raise with this next contract.

And as for the rumors of retirement? Well, back in April of this year, Schefter said on a podcast (via the Front Office Sports article), “I know a lot has been made about my age this week and how I’m retiring, which by the way, no f—— chance about that if you don’t mind my language.”

For a while, some thought that Schefter would be replaced by Ian Rapoport, who came over to the media company after it absorbed the NFL Network. It would seem, though, that Schefter and Rapoport will now form a “dynamic duo” of sorts. They are among the most popular and most respected NFL insiders by fans, players, and coaches. Having both of them on staff at the same time is truly a major benefit for ESPN.

In addition to breaking major NFL stories on social media, Schefter appears on a wide variety of programs. He regularly is a commentator during Monday Night Football games, NFL Countdown, and the “Pat McAfee Show.”

More sports media news from Last Word on Sports

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBZsc2I67z" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4000px; aspect-ratio: 4000/2665;" ></smartframe-embed>

Disturbing allegations against former ESPN analyst Marcellus Wiley revealed

Dianna Russini spotted on vacation with husband and children as sports world awaits scandal fallout

Former ESPN analyst Jason Whitlock comes under fire for claiming US soccer player isn’t really American

Recently, ESPN absorbed the NFL Network, combining two of the biggest media companies that cover professional American sports.
