{"id":2551,"date":"2026-05-01T16:07:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T16:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/?p=2551"},"modified":"2026-05-01T16:07:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T16:07:10","slug":"another-former-qb-could-be-heading-to-tv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/sports-media\/another-former-qb-could-be-heading-to-tv\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Former QB Could Be Heading To TV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another quarterback could be on his way to a second career in television.\u00a0 <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7246097\/2026\/05\/01\/russell-wilson-tv-cbs-nfl-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Marchand of <em>The Athletic<\/em> is reporting<\/a> that former Seahawks, Broncos, Steelers, and Giants signal-caller Russell Wilson is in negotiations to join The NFL Today on CBS for the upcoming NFL season.<\/p>\n<p>Marchand reports that talks have already reached the &#8220;deep discussions&#8221; phase and that if agreed, Wilson would retire as an active competitor in the league and move into the spot recently vacated by former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/sports-media\/matt-ryan-leaving-the-nfl-today-for-front-office-role\/\" target=\"_self\">Ryan left CBS at the end of last season<\/a> to become president of football operations for his former club.<\/p>\n<h2>Wilson Has Experience With CBS<\/h2>\n<p>The 37-year-old is not unfamiliar with CBS, having some one-off assignments with the nextwork, which includes one last season during the Giants bye week.\u00a0 He would join returning studio host James Brown and studio analysts Nate Burleson and Bill Cowher on the dais.<\/p>\n<p>Marchand also reports that CBS has expressed interest in former Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechley for the role.\u00a0 Kuechley has more media experience than Wilson, having working radio broadcasts for Carolina since his retirement along with select national media work.<\/p>\n<p>CBS has declined comment to <em>The Athletic<\/em>, according to Marchand.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson has been to ten Pro Bowls as a player, the last coming in 2024.\u00a0 He has thrown for almost 47,000 yards in his career with 353 touchdown passes, while also rushing for more than 5,500 yards and 311 touchdowns.\u00a0 He spent ten seasons in Seattle, including a win over Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII.\u00a0 He was traded to the Broncos in 2022 and spent two seasons with then before being released in 2024.\u00a0 He spent the following season in Pittsburgh, before playing for the Giants last year.\u00a0 Wilson reportedly has an offer to back up Geno Smith with the Jets this year if he does want to continue his playing career.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another quarterback could be on his way to a second career in television.\u00a0 Andrew Marchand of The Athletic is reporting that former Seahawks, Broncos, Steelers, and Giants signal-caller Russell Wilson is in negotiations to join The NFL Today on CBS for the upcoming NFL season.
