{"id":1862,"date":"2025-11-25T14:47:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T14:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/?p=1862"},"modified":"2025-11-25T14:47:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T14:47:20","slug":"duncan-reportedly-to-lead-other-networks-sports-coverage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/sports-media\/duncan-reportedly-to-lead-other-networks-sports-coverage\/","title":{"rendered":"Duncan Reportedly To Lead Other Network&#8217;s Sports Coverage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A veteran ESPN host appears to be ready to jump to a new opportunity, as <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6834307\/2025\/11\/24\/elle-duncan-netflix-hired\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Marchand of <em>The Athletic<\/em> reports<\/a> that Elle Duncan has agreed to be the first full-time sports personality and anchor for sports coverage for Netflix.<\/p>\n<p>With the broadcaster continuing to acquire live sports rights, they are in need of having a face associated with their coverage that isn&#8217;t tied down to commitments at other networks.\u00a0 Marchand reports that Duncan&#8217;s deal, which has not been signed yet, would allow her to appear elsewhere.\u00a0 However, her top priority would be with the streamer, and could offer her non-sports opporttunities as well.\u00a0 Because Netflix does not have a full sports calendar, Duncan&#8217;s workload would most likely be reduced from what she does at ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Marchand says chances that Duncan could continue in some of her hosting roles at ESPN are extremely unlikely, as executives in Bristol have been hesitant to allow their personalities moonlight for the streaming service.\u00a0 Netflix asked ESPN to borrow some of their personalities for their NFL broadcasts on Christmas Day and were reportedly told they would not be allowed to work those games.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix reportedly showed interest in Malika Andrews, but she signed a new long-term deal to stay with ESPN.<\/p>\n<h2>Netflix&#8217;s Expanding Sports Roster Necessitates Hiring Duncan<\/h2>\n<p>Netflix&#8217;s sports library has expanded greatly in the last couple of years.\u00a0 The streaming giant has rights to a pair of NFL games on Christmas Day, the FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/sports-media\/mlb-agrees-to-new-short-term-tv-deals-with-espn-nbc-netflix\/\" target=\"_self\">Major League Baseball&#8217;s Opening Night and Home Run Derby<\/a>, plus other sports adjacent properties like WWE&#8217;s Monday Night Raw.\u00a0 It also has aired a number of one-off sports broadcasts, like last year&#8217;s boxing matchup between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.\u00a0 Those events would be hosted by Duncan.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan joined ESPN in 2016 as a SportsCenter anchor, eventually moving to the 6 pm broadcast of the show with Kevin Negandhi in 2021.\u00a0 In addition, Duncan has hosted the network&#8217;s studio show for the WNBA, &#8220;WNBA Countdown,&#8221; as well as the College Gameday host for women&#8217;s college basketball.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A veteran ESPN host appears to be ready to jump to a new opportunity, as Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reports that Elle Duncan has agreed to be the first full-time sports personality and anchor for sports coverage for Netflix.
