{"id":1763,"date":"2025-11-10T19:26:51","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T19:26:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/?p=1763"},"modified":"2025-11-28T01:06:53","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T01:06:53","slug":"ron-desantis-calls-out-cbs-for-inability-to-watch-buccaneers-game-in-tallahassee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/sports-media\/ron-desantis-calls-out-cbs-for-inability-to-watch-buccaneers-game-in-tallahassee\/","title":{"rendered":"Ron DeSantis Calls Out CBS For Inability To Watch Buccaneers\u2019 Game In Tallahassee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Florida Governor <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RonDeSantis\/status\/1987684495978274824\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron DeSantis took to X<\/a> on Sunday night, to express his frustration with not being able to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New England Patriots game.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>DeSantis sounds off<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It may have been for the best given the result, but the Bucs game was blacked out in Tallahassee.<\/p>\n<p>It said to sign up for Paramount, so I did \u2014 and they only had the Jaguars-Texas game, which was already on CBS broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>What a joke! <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/NyoAF95K0q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/NyoAF95K0q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ron DeSantis (@RonDeSantis) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RonDeSantis\/status\/1987684495978274824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 10, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeSantis, based in the governor\u2019s mansion in Tallahassee, was not able to see the game on his local CBS station, WCTV, because the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans matchup was airing instead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He went on to state that he tried to watch the game on the streaming app Paramount+, but they were also airing the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans game and not the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New England Patriots matchup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a couple of things to note here: this wasn\u2019t unusual activity from CBS and Paramount+.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why DeSantis couldn&#8217;t see the Buccaneers in Tallahassee<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tallahassee is 111 miles closer to Jacksonville than it is to Tampa, meaning that it is considered to be in the Jaguars\u2019 TV market. CBS will always prioritize putting Jaguars games on in Tallahassee over Buccaneers games if both teams are playing on the same channel at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The other thing: who told DeSantis that the game would be available on Paramount+? He got bad information, as the streaming outlets have the same rules apply to them as the local stations on which games are airing in their respective markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What DeSantis didn\u2019t know is that he could have watched the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New England Patriots game, but the only way to have done so legally would have been through NFL Sunday Ticket.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NFL Sunday Ticket is available for in-home viewing through YouTube TV and is also sold to businesses through DirecTV.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeSantis does raise an interesting issue, however. Why is a matchup between two teams leading their division not available for people in the home state of one of the teams to see?<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>NFL still embraces regional TV coverage<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While nearly every other live sporting event is readily available on national TV, the NFL remains one of the last professional sports that still prioritizes regional coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NBA recently went back to the regional model, as <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/media\/sports-media\/nbc-flexes-its-first-nba-game-to-spotlight-victor-wembanyama-and-the-surging-san-antonio-spurs\/\" target=\"_self\">NBC\u2019s new Tuesday Coast 2 Coast<\/a> package shows one game on the East Coast, followed by another matchup on the West Coast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both NBA games are available on Peacock, so unlike the NFL Sunday games, even if the game you want to see isn\u2019t on in your local market, it is still easy to access.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NFL is expected to renegotiate its TV rights deals soon, but even with the cable and streaming networks galore, the league is not likely to make every game readily available for a cheap price to the consumer.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took to X on Sunday night, to express his frustration with not being able to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New England Patriots game.
